Emmitt Williams Outside Shooting/JaVonte's Progression

Have the posters who have seen the basketball team's first two games seen any notable improvement in Emmitt William's jumper? The team seems to be much more perimeter oriented and with Emmitt only being 6'6, I'm thinking he will need to hit more jumpers this year to keep the defense honest and open the driving lanes for JaVonte and Skylar. Also, as a side note, it will obviously be imperative for him to show he can shoot if he wants to make a pro career for himself (which he obviously does).
Also how has JaVonte looked as the full time PG? I know he had some great games at PG last year (like the Tennessee game) but I feel like he will need to play at an all-SEC level this year for the team to be successful. I'm thinking 18 PPG and between 6-8 APG should be numbers to shoot for since the floor will be more spaced out and he will have the ball so much of the time.

Emmitt looks very capable from beyond the arc. I think he will be a legitimate threat out there this year
Smart is a very good leader. He won’t make the highlight plays Waters did but he will also value the ball a lot more. He will be fine
Rebounding is the biggest question mark with this group. A lot depends on getting the guards to crash the boards

I haven’t seen Emmitt’s his new jumpshot but I’m skeptical of him being a consistent threat. His shot seemed disconnected last season. I’ll be happy if he can just hit the occasional 3 to keep the defense honest. I’m not really sold on him being a volume shooter. Regardless, the work he has put in is very commendable.

The one good thing is that advanced metrics show that rebounding is one of the stats the usually translates effectively from HS to College and Watford was a really good rebounder in HS.
Hopefully he will be our rebounding rock and then Emmitt and Days can make up the difference between them.

I look forward to valuing the ball more.

I see Emmitt Williams and shooting in the thread title and have a mini panic attack.

I haven't seen them this year, but Smart and Mays at guard eliminated a lot of penetration when they were used last year. If Days can hit the 3 we will have 3 big guards who can play lock down defense and generate turnovers.

We'll need Emmitt inside crashing the boards. He has the strength, athleticism, and wingspan to be a credible college big. I just wish he were 2 inches taller.

Putting it that way in regards to Emmitt and Days is a bit of an under valuing statement. Both of them were in the top 5 of rebounding in their class coming out of h.s.; so it's not like they were any slouches. Not to mention that both were probably about the 2 most efficient offensive rebounders last year and Emmitt began to come on towards the end of the season as a better all around rebounder.
The key this year is going to be having the guards (especially with their size) be more aggressive in the defensive rebounding game and not look to run out so much.

I'm sure all of our guys will jack up threes when they're open. But it may take several games to see if Emmitt is a legit outside threat. We'll need him to be an inside presence, and he was such a good inside player last year I'm hoping he improves even more there.
If our other guys shoot well from three, and Watford demands lots of attention from other teams, that should give Emmitt room to operate in the lane and around the rim where he's most effective.

While I have concerns about our rebounding and rim protection, I think we will be a better shooting team that won't have to lean on offensive rebounding like we did last year and I think we will be better in guarding the perimeter. Either way, I'm excited to finally see this team in person tomorrow night
