seems like there may have been a rule change in may, not allowing you to count players back to last year if you were at the 85 man limit. My guess is LSU was prepared to do this at signing day, or i could be wrong.

The issue is we didn't expect everyone to qualify...when they did, it forces the coaches to ask a kid to grey shirt.

We had like 5 guys who were academic risks, no way the staff thought they'd all make it.

Wing should be greyshirting, not Porter. We don't need a Punter this year.
Coaches must not be too confident in Helton and they want to see what Wing can do. That probably gives them the opportunity to tell the Punter committed now to take a hike if Wing works out early.

I'm not sure how this all works out though.
With the guys leaving, it doesn't seem like there's a need to make kid's greyshirt...

You can't sign over 25 people and put them on campus. That is the rule. LSU is under the 85 man rule...at least I think they are.

Yeah, I was thinking of the 85 rule. But shouldn't Adams/Washington count back. So effectively taking our class back to 25 men for the 2010 season?

let me expand on the new rule and how it impacted this. i left off details. I am getting this 3rd hand so it can be wrong.
If you had 85 last season, you can't count any January enrolle back to last season's class even if it was under 25 as you could in the past. We gave Graff a scholarship and it put us at 85 last season

When it was reported that everyone qualified, Wing, Fordham and then Welter where who I thought of right away as options.

Just my opinion but I thought their was much better greyshirt candidates outside Porter. But I guess this isn't too horrible considering this basically just frees a spot up for this class instead of signing a greyshirt to this class. I just hope he doesn't end up being a stud. You'd think they had recruits that were more willing to take a greyshirt, not a guy who had offers from programs like Tennessee...

Anyways, at least we have a extra spot now for this class.
Also, I'm guessing they did a rule change on players counting back because I'm pretty sure LSU is under the 85 man rule. We have 26 coming to campus now and they need another to greyshirt. That means the counting back rule doesn't work anymore. At least that is what I'm guessing. Would make sense for the NCAA to stop that, IMO.
