HUGE mistake. He got bad advice. How selfish of him not to put my LSU-FAN needs ahead of his own financial needs. When will these players learn to ask me first?
for all these kids, I hope they actually make a team. Would be a shame to piss away a college education and all the white women and not get a pay day.

You think he's about to get a $1-2 million signing bonus?

$1-2 million guaranteed from where? Sure not from the draft.

I think we need to look at this from his perspective.
If you are not going to be a 1st round pick, then it is not about how high you can go in the draft, but how long you can stay in the NFL.
At the end of the day, if he even makes a roster, he will get around $420k....before taxes. For estimation purposes, lets assume after taxes he makes $300,000 a year.
Given the shelf life of an NFL player, he will be extremely lucky to be in the league in 3 years. If you calculate escalating salaries, he will make around $1 million after taxes.
Ego is thinking about it this way, if I come back, will I be a 1st round pick (more guaranteed money). The answer is no. So then the question becomes, will coming back another year prepare me more to stay on an NFL roster. Keep in mind his body will be a year older, he will have a further risk of injury, and he will be working with the same coaches he has been for the previous three years, so no new techniques will be taught.
By his calculation, he has a better chance of making and staying on an NFL roster by coming out this year than he would next year.
Now I will say that it feels like LSU is suffering from this a lot more than other teams and I do not buy that we have that much more talent. The issue is really that the players do not feel they benefit anymore financially by coming back for another year and learning from the same coaching staff. In other words, they feel as though LSU has gotten them as far as it can.

I've wrote this repeatedly on this board, but again, here it goes. The rookie wage scale makes it so every pick has a gradual decrease in money. There is no positions that get more money simply because they are more important etc. The first pick in the second round got a 2.35 mill signing bonus. Twenty two picks later the guy got a 1.01 mill bonus. Ego is looking in the range of 850k-2mill+ in signing bonus alone by draft scouts.
