i love how people say that espn hates the sec when we have a fricking contract with them. if it wasn't for espn, we would still be watching big 10/notre dame football every saturday

there is good football being played outside the SEC and last years natcham left a sour taste in most peoples mouth. just because bama beat us doesn't prove they deserved to be in that game. if we would have come out as flat against OKSt (which I doubt we would have) they could have beaten us also. the fact that the same two progams have, seemingly, separated themselves from the pack is like "deja vu...all over again" and many aren't comfortable with that. only time will tell.

That contract means shite... It's so they can make money showing our games. It's not so we can all hang out and be friends. ESPN has an agenda, like any other business. No, it's not an SEC-conspiracy. It's to make money.

Your arguement is dumb though. ESPNdoes not like SEC being the only conference producing interest in a nation wide sport. In 4 years it will be a decade of SEC undisputed dominance. They pump up high viewer audiences to get more viewers.

It's really easy. "USC looks decent, let's make them out to be world beaters so all the bandwagon fans in this large region can start buying shite and watching more football".

Meh, I'm in the TV / entertainment business - they do this because they are in the prediction business.

As of August 31st one could make the argument with a weak schedule all USC needed to do is run the table and only have 2 tough games against Notre Dame and Oregon. I don't think any of the sportscasters with an honest mind is actually saying "USC would definately run the table in the SEC", they are saying "with a medium to weak strength of schedule and historically good recruiting USC should have an easier time relative to the rest of the teams".

Conversely you can't say with a straight face the LSU or Alabama face as easy a schedule and so they do their rankings based on how they think the year is going to end up.

Good thing SC always disappoints :)

It's not a conspiracy. If you look at the MSA's combined with the ratings for college football I'd be willing to bet that the Dallas, Houston and Atlanta areas easily outdraw Los Angeles - if anything they should be pimping Texas and aTm.

Dallas + Houston are the same size as Southern California in terms of a Major Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA - which TV markets are grouped together and sold). Of that, I'd say a much higher percentage watch college football in the Dallas / Houston combo than in LA.
