Dumb question: how is the winner of the west determined?

is it the best SEC record or the best SEC west record?
i think it's the former and if so LSU could go undefeated in the west and still not "win" the west and go to atlanta. something just doesn't seem right about that.

Maybe, but it's that way in every sport I can think of. I believe it's possible, though highly unlikely, to win your division in the NFL without actually winning a divisional game, because best overall record is the deciding factor.

Weren't undefeated in the West, but it was playing Florida that cost us playing for the SEC/national title.

Not wholly unlike the NFL where overall record determines divisional champs, unless ties need to be broken.
