If not for some backpedaling by LSU coach Les Miles in the fall of 2007, Thomas might be starting against Oregon in this game

JJ wouldn't have been offered a scholly had Thomas kept his verbal. Most likely.

Well, it will soon be a game he wants to forget and he'll sitting in the hot tub for at least the next 24 hours after the game.

Wasn't JJ a commit before Thomas bailed?

They were both verbals. Not sure who was first. JJ wasn't the priority of the two, I know that. He was a 3 star qb that was going to backup perrilloux and hatch as a third stringer if not fourth.

Is jj allowed to practice with his receivers during of time or workouts? I remember J Russell saying him early, bowe, Davis would runs drills and patterns together on their off time. Would be cool if jj was doing the same

Yes, JJ has been setting up and leading the voluntary 7 on 7s this summer.

I think the staff thought both had similar potential so with everything equal they chose the local guy. They probably "backpedaled" and started talking to Thomas about a possible position switch b/c they didn't want 2 QBs.

Thomas was rated higher. Miles saw him as an "athlete" and Thomas wanted to be a qb.

They took JJ on as a project with no real intentions of making him "the guy" IMO.

Please - we all know JJ is better than Andrew Luck and it was all Crowton's fault.
Hiring Krag at 200K more that Crowton was a deal of a lifetime. Wait until JJ blossoms and averages 300 yds passing/game in conjunction with our 250 yds/game running attack. Our offense will dominant.

Thomas sure wasn't rated higher by Rivals.

Doesn't matter how the recruiting services rate them, only how the coaches do.

Remember we also had DC Jefferson (eventually signed with Rutgers) committed at one point too (before DThomas I think).
