If we hit we score 12-14 runs. We scored 6.
Crews looked solid.
Basically three balls hit hard all day.
I will give it the benefit though. First game and all. I still think Dugas could be one of the best hitters to ever put on a LSU uniform, he just has to get out of his own way. I am basing it on nothing more than a feeling

No..... I'm pretty sure we came close to setting a record for runners stranded in scoring position....and they were mainly there off walks

Too early for me to tell. The players and lineup still need some adjustments, as expected after opening day.

Exactly, hard to consistently hit when the opposition is that wild

Did we watch the same game? It's one thing if a hitter works the count and gets a walk because of a good eye and patience, but these walks were mainly AF pitchers putting the ball in the dirt. Yes a walk is a successful AB, but to point to all these walks and say our hitting has improved is just dumb.

I dont know anyone saying our hitting is improved. Just that its hard to make conclusions

I don't think you can look at stats after one game, but I did notice some things. Crews and Morgan look very comfortable, especially Crews. I don't think they took any bad swings and both showed patience. I can see Crews passing Beloso and C Doughty as our most feared bat before long. I think he is good enough to lead off, but I prefer his power later in the order. I actually think Gio or even Morgan would be better leading off.
Gio looked confident and had good at bats.
Hellmers looked terrible his first strike out but had some solid hits after that. Unfortunately, they were easy outs to outfield. I think Hellmers can improve a lot as the year goes on but personally I think he will be out of the starting line up before long.
Dugas was the biggest disappointment to me. Some of the pitches he swung at, shouldn't be happening with his experience. I'm still a fan of Dugas, but I would have liked to have seen a better approach at the plate.
Beloso, Doughty, Milazzo and Arnold hit as expected.

quote:Agreed. Also made an error on first play of the game. If they are going to put someone out there who isn’t a strong hitter they will just move Arnold to 3rd and put in the best fielding SS.

It’s almost like we haven’t played a college baseball game in 11 months

We took a better approach to hitting
Last couple of year we went out there and hacked away at the first pitch we saw

Lot of young guys, lot of young guys who still have not seen SEC P. ABs and more ABs. Work in progress.
