Basketball games at LSU used to be popular spots for football players, football coach Les Miles, his assistants and recruits. Bringing a recruit to a basketball game at LSU or Auburn these days could mean an immediate de-visit. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, who hired basketball coach Trent Johnson after the 2007-08 season, has not even been to a lot of games.
Aleva and Football recruiting

Joe Dean and Skip never missed basketball games- our current A.D may not feel it is important!

somewhat, but if you like the school enough a boring bball atmosphere shouldn't affect it.

it might hint at the fans being frontrunners, but i don't think kids care too much about that anymore

Instead of taking them to a bball game, take them to the Gold Club

On a side note I do think Aleva should attend every game- his two previous predecessors did

Since the AD position is partly a fund raising position, he should be at a sporting event every single night that there is one. If there are 2 going on at the same time, he should split time.

No excuse for not being there.

Wasnt it Bertman who hired Trent during his last year at AD?

doubt it has much, if any, effect. most these guys have taken unofficial visits to football games in the fall. also, if the success of a basketball team has an effect on where they want to play football, they're picking a school for the wrong reasons. and looking at our basketball success the past 2 years and the classes we've brought in, i'd say it hasn't affected football recruiting, at all

Absolutely! Without a doubt basketball can impact footbal recruiting. I remember the "glory days" with Brady, when a football recruit was brought to a game, the crowd would go wild. When a recruit experiences what used to be the Deaf Dome, and the crowd chants his name, how could that not postitively effect the overall LSU experience?

About as much as the line up at the Swine Palace or the menu at the cafeteria. Indiana's basketball (or Gonzaga's for that matter) is not affected by their lack of football prowess. If they are not died-in-the-wool Tiger fans, these guys come for one reason only - to win a national championship.

Not at all.On the flip side, how much has Duke's or Kentucky's basketball success helped their football recruiting?

Kansas says yes.
LINK
but then, you need some kind of hook to get kids to play football at KU. LSU pretty much sells itself.

If Aleva is going to support TJ the least he can do is prove it by attending the games
