Does anyone forget that we were ranked #2 in the country last year?

With the way the season ended, at times I forget how good we played the first 7 games and forget that we were #2 heading in to Bama. I really think this year will be special.
Harris will improve greatly, and the defense is stacked.
Looking forward to a title run

Yes, we were ranked #2 in the country without having to play much of a schedule. LSU was exposed when it got to the tough stretch. Although we were ranked #2 they never played like they were the second best team in the country (outside of Fournette)

every year LSU fans say "(insert starting QB name) will improve greatly" and yet our QB's have been awful.
eta: basically I'll believe when I see it.

Thats because our schedule was garbage. We looked bad against some terrible teams.

LOL you're right we've had one good year at QB in the last 8 years, you cannot defend the development at the QB position.

FL was probably our best game and their D was legit. Also, State wasn't great but they were a solid team.

PS: I think the OP's title should read:
"Does anyone remember . . ."

or

"Has everyone forgotten . . ."

We still get the point.

And our defense was suspect the whole season and got torched by two walk on QBs and gave up 20 plus points in 11 of our 13 games.

Bama had a 13 play 9 and a half minute drive

Ole Miss put up 38 and Arkansas ran all over us

Steele let us down more than the offense did

We also spread out Bama a lot but Harris got injured halfway through that game after we started moving the ball

It's because Steele insisted on playing zone when we had the personnel to play man on man.

Lane Kiffen made our zone defense look clueless. Mills was chasing down out routes in the flat from 8 yards away the whole game

We didn't "accidentally luck" into Mett. We actively recruited him as other schools did.

Les needs to be criticized for his offense philosophy but he recruits very well.

We were never the 2nd best team in the.country despite our ranking. It was fool's gold, and anybody with any sense could, tell. You can blame Miles for not having recruited the full team--especially QB--to take full advantage of the season--but we were never winning the NC last year. We just weren't good enough. Again, you can blame Miles for not having recruited well enough to put us in a better position, but it was clear early on to anyone with sense that we weren't making a serious run at the NC. Blame Miles for recruiting or lack of developing, but that team last year wasn't special enough to win it all. We didn't choke--it wasn't calls, formation, even execution. We just weren't that good.we were good, but not National,Championship good. Blame Miles for, recruiting and development if you must, but we just weren't talented enough to win it,all.

I think what we,did in baseball 20 years ago and what Bama has done in football the last 10 years has warped our sense of,success. Those dynasties are outliers--more a cmbimation of all the stars aligning with the right people at th right place,in the right moment in time coverging on each other at the same, time. Skip, who's probably the best, coach in college baseball history, came along when Loiusian was super talent rich, the other schools weren't dedicating the same resources to college baseball . And once the success train started rolling, we,got, everybody we wanted and just dominated people, for a,while.. Until, they inevitably caught up.im no,big fan of,Manieri.,but he is a very good, coach and this spoiled.entitled attitude that we,"deserve" a title, every few years if,fricking absurd.'Shits hard to win. Yeah you have to be talented, balanced, lucky, well coached, but you got,to,go,out there and win the darn thing. Nobody is bending over anymore, and taking up the arse because we have LSU written across our jerseys.

The Eastern Michigan game should have sent off deafening alarms. There was no excuse for having to use Fournette for 3 quarters in order to ensure victory. Eastern Michigan was a very very bad football team and yet we struggled. The final score is not a accurate indication of the game played out.

FIFY

We can debate whether LSU recruits QBs well or not but the record on the field of Miles' QBs (with the exception of Mett) has been fair to poor. LSU generally has won in spite of their QBs rather than because of their QB play. JJ was the best organic program QB. Ugh.

Maybe this is because the program just does not evaluate QB talent well in recruiting or that the staff is not good at developing QB once it's on-campus. I would hazard it's a combination of the two, along with the basic overall Miles Big 10 run, run, run philosophy which historically permeates the offensive program.

tl/dr: Cadillac Football Program at LSU always with Top 10 Talent EXCEPT at QB. Why? Miles.

Exactly. We were #2 for several reasons.

1) We were the last SEC team to lose a game.
2) Voters are lazy.
3) They act like there's a rule that you can't put a team with a loss ahead of a team from a power conference that's undefeated or something.

What was coming was so obvious, Ray Charles could see it.

This. Yeah, the team was winning, but a national championship caliber team simply would not have allowed some of those guys to hang around as long as they did.

Then reality set in and found out just how good this team really was in the month of November.

This is said every single year then afterwards the "Wait till Next Year" and "We're just Young" phrases soon follow.

Harris will improve greatly, and the defense is stacked.

This is what was said last year at this exact time.

Same as Kentucky hoops, we were ranked their on program reputation. Also we supposedly had a strong pitching staff.
