Compare the offenses the last two years.

2009
Scoring
Oregon 8th
LSU 76th

Total Offense
Oregon 33rd
LSU 112th

2010
Scoring Offense
Oregon 1st
LSU 49th

Total Offense
Oregon 1st
LSU 88th

I'm willing to bet Oregon will have a much better offense again in 2011.

This game sucks honestly. Shouldn't have scheduled it for one of the years the national title is in New Orleans. No matter how unfair it is, the expectation for LSU next year will be to win the SEC and reach the national championship game. Even though the season opener against Oregon won't affect our chances at an SEC title, it will certainly affect our chances at a national title.

With road games against West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi State, throwing a non-home game against a top 3 ranked team is probably too much for next year's LSU team to go through with only one loss.

I like the idea of playing in Dallas against a high-quality opponent. It will for sure help recruiting and national exposure, but I just think the timing of the game isn't very good. 2012 or 2013 would have been better.

We probably shouldn't even show up for the game

yall aren't a little nervous about them going up and down the field on us? I hope you guys are right.

I'm terrified with the thought, honestly.

Team played very well against more traditional attacks this year but struggled against mobile QBs (like most every defense) and spread attacks.

Hopefully having the offseason to study and prepare will give us a good chance.

Isn't that the case for most teams?

LSU and Oregon will both be different teams next year when they meet. Losing just a couple of players can really affect the chemistry of a team. Look at University of Texas this year, very talented but they really sucked because they forgot how to play as a team. Too many guys looking out for themselves. I loved it!! I think Les can keep our guys focused, if he does, Oregon is very beatable.

I see a similar game to what we saw in LSU vs Auburn. I think Oregon dominates the game statistically and outgains and out-possesses LSU by a ton, BUT, LSU does just enough to stay in the game and have a chance to pull it out in the end. I don't really see it happening though.

Oregon 30
LSU 23

P.S. LSU hasn't looked very good the last few years in season openers.

Really? Please don't tell me that we're going to have another offseason of posters freaking out about Oregon and making them out to be unbeatable like folks did UNC this past offseason.

Rocket, your posts make you seem as if you are pretty optimistic about this one. What has LSU shown you under this current staff that gives you such high hopes in week 1 versus Oregon?

I have concerns but I'm not going to freak out like a bitch about a game 9 months away. I'm not sold on Oregon, although I may be if they do really well against Auburn(even then, it will still be a new cast next year). It just comes from my general disrespect I have for Pac - 10 football.

Not freaking out =/= having high hopes

On the flip side....

Pointing out that this is a bad matchup for LSU =/= Freaking out

When folk are saying that the Ducks scare the hell out them or they are scared of this thought or that thought, the language suggests to me some folk are a little bit too worried.

Oregon is losing a lot of players after this season. Yeah they are going to bring back Thomas and James, but they are losing like 10-11 starters.

I mean, it's just a football game. Even if we lose, it's not like it's the end of the world. And, it's Oregon. If they were some perenial powerhouse who has proven in the past that they have what it takes to knock off elite SEC teams in BCS title games, I'd be concerned more. I'm more concerned about Alabama. It's not like we're about to square up with the Patriots.

See I'm less concerned with Bama due to the offense they run.

We just seem to be completely out of position against teams where you need to play good, assignment football. i.e. Auburn wildcat type offenses. I would assume the same can be said for Oregon zone option type offenses.

I don't get this. Yeah, we were horrible against Auburn this year. Most teams were. Ole Miss was bad too, but the other spread option teams we played we did great against. Last year we didn't have any problems against spread option teams.
