re: Do LSU players catch heat like this?

I remember back when LSU played Auburn in 2005. John Vaughn the kicker for Auburn missed 5 field goals in the game(41, 54, 37, 49, 39). The 49 was to win the game with no time left. The 39 was in OT for the 20-17 LSU win.
I heard Vaughn got back to his apartment I believe. It had been vandalized. He also had death threats on his phone.
He went out that Sunday and I think hit 10 straight field goals from each of his misses.
Was a finalist for the Lou Groza award the next year.
It's still a shame that that kind of pressure is placed on a player like that. Probably feels bad enough for the misses. And comes home to that.

Man, I remember PK Ronnie Lewis catching hell in 1985 for missing a FG that would have beaten Bama. Instead, we tied them 14-14. The next week he makes a kick, the student section gives him jeering applause and he flips off the entire section.

People that cannot separate a game (win or lose) from the importance of person's life do not deserve to live on this earth themselves.

Everybody is tough in cyber space. I guarantee if one of those people said that to his face (which none of them would), they would forever be known on campus as "that guy that got his arse beat by the kicker". Internet tough guys have to be the lowest form of life on this planet.

The haters almost had me convinced as well.
But then I shake.

Were you around when Jamie Howard was at LSU?

Mizzou stops them on 4th-and-15 the Tigers are still undefeated.

God, i remember that Bama game. I flipped HIM off from 600 miles away. I was 12. How can you miss a game winning FG that amounts to an extra pt? On a dry, crisp November day.

It's a known fact that LSU fans turn on their players real quick, but have any of you seen an LSU player get bashed like Mizzou's kicker did?

Higgins,
I know what you mean. My brother and I along with 2 other friends had already purchased our Sugar Bowl tickets anticipating watching the Tigers play in NOLA. Thanks to Ronnie Lewis, we had to watch Tennessee dismantle the U.

Bad angle. The hashes were wider back then. He hooked it around the right upright...I remember it like it was yesterday.

First name starts with A. We're fine.

Lewis was also kicking off a tee, with wider goal posts. That's pretty hard to screw up.
I missed a 44 yard field goal with 2 minutes left in the state championship. Skimmed the left upright. 16 years old at the time. And the name "Ray Finkle" was painted on my locker at school. People suck. First one I missed all year. In fact, kicked a 38 yard field goal the week before in the semis to win.

Seriously? That's pretty funny.

Very sad that people are that way nowadays.
Yep, rather than trying to pick up a player who has to be devastated by his failure, some fans want to kick him in the balls because he caused them to not be able to feel better about their own shallow lives which require a sports team success to know contentment.
