Me and my friends joke about hating Tulane, but its never serious. What's there to hate? A watered down transient fanbase? I wish the rivalry was like it was back in the day. But I don't think that'll ever happen.

I remember going to the LSU Tulane game in the dome in 07. It was like a cave in there. Barely any Tulane fans, except for the student section "Wave Pool." Some of the few hardcore Tulane fans were making comments about LSU fans not being able to fill up the dome. Like it was LSU's responsibility to sell out Tulanes home stadium.

Truthfully, I'd probably go to some Tulane football games if they played at a better venue than the dome. Tad Gormley would probably be a good stadium for them.

LSU is where my whole family went, so I've always loved LSU. I used to have LSU footie pajamas. But I went to Tulane because my parents, who met at LSU, believed Tulane to be a better school. That is the consensus opinion. But football's just not a big deal there. The Tulane players I met seemed like alright guys, but I was bigger than them when I played in HS. I'm sure they had way more skill than I ever did, but my point is that LSU football is in another league. This should be fairly obvious. Also I'm from Texas, and yes, most Tulane grads are damn yankees.

I'm continually fascinated by the interest amongst fan...I refrain from claiming alum, because the education level of the foot soldiers tend to offend even the EBR short bus.

But I read this on the UL board yesterday and it earned a spot in my heart... "What exactly is tulane excelling in more than us? Besides baseball and acedemics, tulane isn't known for anything else really."

I've spent the past two years working on a Tulane project, documenting the "passion" fueled by their tradition and wealth...this is the best stuff I get...

When I finally edit and publish the 200+ events from 15 Louisiana schools over the last two years, I think people will have a new perception about the stratification of support in this state.

I thought the reason we even have universities is to provide the best education possible? I must have missed the part of the mission statement where they were to become sports factories.

I was at that disaster- one of the few times I ever saw an LSU team give up...

Maybe for baseball, but that's it. Tulane needs to drop any pretense that it belongs in the FBS.

I've found, on the whole, that those who make this kinda short sighted statement are fans of teams with little to no sports history of note.

The LSU sports factory pays its own way w/o needing to be propped up by the state, is a source of revenue for many in and around BR, and yearly transfers millions into the academic side of the school.

So I ask you, if you are going to have sports at a university, what's wrong with excelling at it to the point it becomes a money maker for the school, the BR area, and the state???
