DJ Chark is not currently a true number one receiver in the league. Just because you lead your team in targets, catches, yards, whatever doesn’t make you a number one WR. There aren’t 32 of them in the NFL. Chark is young and promising. He could get there. But right now he doesn’t have a versatile enough skill set to be in that tier.

The phrase “true number one” is simply an opinion and sports media creation that has no real meaning. Some people say it’s a WR that demands double coverage, some say it’s a WR that would be the #1 on any team but whichever you agree with it’s still only an opinion. You guys are confusing #1 WR with elite WR but they’re not the same things. A number 1 WR is no different than a starting QB, there are 32 of them by definition. What is a #1 WR? It’s the top wide receiver on any given team or the WR in that teams #1 spot on the depth chart. That’s what it is and that’s what DJ Chark is.

Being the leading WR on your team doesn’t make you a WR1.

Odell did not play like a WR1 this year, but he has in the past.

Hunter Renfrow led the Raiders WRs in catches with 49, that doesn’t make him a WR1.

Terry McLaughlin led the redskins with 59-919. He isn’t a WR1. He just led his team in those categories
