it won't ever happen again because of SEC contracts. LSU AD has plenty of money.

You're right. But ND called the Cotton Bowl when it was evident the best game would have been Texas-LSU. They asked to be invited. With a 7-3 record the Irish played Texas and won. LSU with a 9-1 record decided to stay home other than accept a lesser bowl.

The lost to Archie Mannings Ole Miss Rebels was the only loss that year. The tigers led the nation in rushing yds allowed giving up a measly 42 yds per game. Texas was averaging something like 350 yds a game rushing. Would have been a good game and possibly a NC.

In '69, the Sun Bowl ended up with a 5-4-1 Georgia team ... they were upset by Georgia Tech on the final weekend. When LSU got cheated out of the Cotton Bowl, the Sun Bowl then made an offer to play Nebraska. Tigers voted no, and Nebraska smoked Georgia. The '69 team was Mac's best ever.

On the SEC day/night doubleheaders, also remember LSU vs. Alabama in Birmingham (1970) during the day and Miss. St. and Auburn that night.

Also in Jerry Stovall's first year of coaching after he had taken over the team after the Bo Rein plane crash. The team finished 7-4 that year with signature wins at Florida which was an upset and posted that victory after we , ourselves had been upset at Rice just 7 days earlier and good victories over a pretty good Auburn team as well as pretty good Ole Miss team that year. Dont know if an invitation was ever extended but remember the team voting to not go to a bowl game even if extended an offer before playing the Tulane game. My oh my , how times have changed. Just went back and was reading through the posts and saw where GoldTiger had already alluded to what I was just posting. Sorry.
