That was a 7-5 ASU team by the way. I know LSU had an extreme, unfortunate circumstance with Katrina, but could you image the heat Miles would have faced if they didn't call that a catch and to lose the following week against Tennessee?
Stating 0-2...with that talented team.

It was so obvious this was our first game of the year while they already had their tune-up game.
If Katrina doesn't happen, we beat ASU by 2tds in Tiger Stadium.

No he never bobbled the ball, got his right foot down, and then went out of bounce where the ground then caused him to bobble the ball, but at that point it didn't matter because he had got his right foot down and it was already a touchdown at that point.

Can you imagine the gut punch it would've been to the team and the entire state to go from the high of the win to the low of the loss if that was reversed? Damn
Kind of like Auburn this year...

Jesus, Jamarcus could chuck the ball.

A far less officiating error than the game the 2000 Gators stole from Tennessee. The UF receiver (I think it was Gaffney) never possessed the ball. It was incredibly blatant. I doubt he had for half second. A clear drop but he was across the goal line.
That was 2 weeks before we sent the Vols to 0-2 in SEC play; Ro became a star; Tiger Stadium was back; and, the rebirth of LSU football began.

I'm not seeing it? He had two hands on the ball as he fell and the ground caused it to pop loose.
Pausing the video at 8:13 you see his right leg planted inbounds and the ball is secure.
Can someone explain how that's not a catch?
I'm not sure if a replay would have helped, if the call on the field was a catch I think that'd be hard to over turn.

Does history change at all if LSU loses that game and Les Miles starts his career 0-2?

ON ANOTHER NOTE COLT DAVID WAS THE GOAT KICKER AT LSU

I agree. That's how I see it, he got his hands on the ball and never bobbled the ball, came down on his right foot, still had possession of the ball. It's already a touchdown at that point. Meanwhile, while he continued to fall he maintained possession of the ball until he hit the ground out of bounds, where he briefly juggled the ball before regaining control, but at that point none of that matters because it was already a touchdown.

I was there, sitting in ASU student section....was great seeing all that disappointment up close...they rattle their car keys when they do something good....guess who walked out of their stadium rattling keys?

Yeah but that didn't happen either all other emotional attachments added to the game like this one did.

3 things I vividly remember from that game-
1- the fake punt inside our own 30. Even though it was called on the field by the punter, it started the 'mad hatter' rep
2- Early's catch
3- how uber excited Les was after that game to win. I remember being excited we won but pissed how close it was. Little did I know it would be my feelings for the next 10 years.

Watch the replay. I'm not sure if he ever had complete control of the ball
But as long as LSU won.... It doesn't matter........

I am an official and fir 33 years and it is close, but that is a catch. He came down an controlled the ball and took a step and held it for longer than a second. It would would still be a catch today
