No #7 in 2012 or 2013. Though 2012 was because TM was dismissed from the team.
The #18 tradition started in 2004 and has been carried on since with the only anomaly in 2017 when O decided he would have 2 18s. Both players exhibited the type of attitude and work ethic of a #18 so not too many people had a major issue there.
#7 has kind of organically developed a tradition. It doesn’t have the contiguous history of #18 but has kind of organically grown into what it is.

It was also organically killed off last year.

The players still covet the number now, look at Delpit’s reaction to receiving it. The choice of player last year proved less than stellar.
By organic, I simply meant that it grew as a result of who wore the numbers rather than as one in which certain criteria was applied before making the selection.
A number signifying a great player is way more likely to disappoint than one that signifies great work ethic and attitude.

Can’t wait until we get a DT or pass rusher wearing #7. Thats the year we probably win it all.

Give it to Demon or Alec Bryant in a few years... we got some stud pass rushers coming in. As long as we can continue to build a stout defensive line, our OLBs will have plenty of opportunities to be great

With a freshman RB/FB?

Yes, a freshman. Passed down by the departing senior in consultation with a few staff and an eye for the work ethic/attitude the kid had based on knowledge they already had via the recruiting process.
