That's the way the 3 bats stay in the lineup. I like Milazzo and he has been clutch in the past but honestly, I think he will be a situational catcher this year. The better all-around catcher (hitting and defense) is Neal.

Yeah, no doubt. But Neal's health is an obstacle, so Millazzo is likely to catch a lot of innings for us. They are going to play two of those catchers most of the time at Catcher and DH. If you want to get Milazzo's bat out of the lineup Travinski is going to have to catch to give Neal the breaks he apparently needs. On those occasions you can DH Neal.

I think the best way to approach it in SEC play would be starting Neal Friday and Sunday and subbing Milazzo in the 6-7th inning in those games with Travinski DHing. Then have Travinski start at Catcher on Saturday with Neal DHing. That maximizes the two bats of Neal and Travinski but also plays all 3 pretty equally to spread the load.

That sounds like a plan.

Sounds like a good framework, but may not want to burn Neal's bat late in 2 SEC games a weekend.

Exactly. We're not subbing Milazzo for Neal at the end of a close game. You're not gaining much defensively, if any at all, and you're giving up a ton offensively. To keep Neal fresh and Milazzo sharp and engaged, I think you catch Neal on Friday and Sunday like suggested and Trav on Saturday with the other DH-ing those games. You catch Milazzo during the midweek and DH Trav or Neal, depending on what Jay thinks is best for each game. He may want Neal's LH bat in the lineup or he may just want to keep Trav in the lineup every day to protect White.

And if you're subbing Milazzo in on the weekend in SEC play, it should either be like they did yesterday when the game is out of hand or we have a big enough lead that we feel confident the pen will finish it without us having to score any more. Or if Trav or Neal made one of the last outs of the previous inning and you don't expect their spot to come back up in the order.

What you definitely don't want is to put Milazzo in too early and his spot in the lineup comes back around and we're down by a run or 2 and need a bomb to tie it up or take the lead. You can't take Trav or Neal's bat out of the lineup in a close game and put Alex in just to put him in. But there may also be some SEC games where we're facing a nasty LHP that may be a bad matchup for Neal. In those games you can start Milazzo and DH Trav and have Neal on the bench to either sub in when they go to a RHP out of the pen or wait for a high leverage PH situation if one presents itself.

Why would we want to do that? Neal can really hit and is good defensively.

I’ll have a cow if they ever take travinski out of the lineup. He is a force for us.
