why? You actually think LSU is still on the same level and perception nationally during Dale's tenure. The program never truly came full circle. Brady had two decent runs and thank Tyrus for one of them who was literally a "diamond in the rough" The fanbase has totally went ampathatic in the last 20 years. if you don't think so, go the PMAC for a game. The longterm effects of that probation had crippling effects on the program.
Disagree with you.
NCAA investigation or not, Dale Brown was on his way out. His underperforming, one-and-dones in the NCAA tournament started fans grumbling. Then Brown failed to even win in his own conference. The handwriting was on the wall and the investigation sealed the deal.
Brady's players played hard during the beginning of his tenure. He had horrible players that probably even still overachieved. They played teams close but just couldn't get the wins. The fact that LSU made the Sweet Sixteen 3 YEARS after "Draconian sanctions" is testament that LSU basketball was still a decent commodity. I remember listening on the radio while I was away at school in Mississippi to LSU DESTROY Oklahoma State under Eddie Sutton. The future was BRIGHT for LSU.
I'm not sure what happened over the next few years to make LSU sputter, but we're still only a few years removed from a Final Four.
Not sure how anyone can say that two Sweet Sixteens and a Final Four shortly following probation how the maiming of the program.

I think it was three years of self imposed sanctions to then be followed by three more NCAA sanctions. I think it was a total of 6 scholarships as well. The NCAA set out to destroy our program as retaliation against Dale Brown being outspoken about the hypocrisy of the NCAA.
Partly right - Dale cheated long before Lester E.

Roy Williams who was then at Kansas was very much responsible for all of it. He is a cowardly piece of shite.
1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% agree with this. Roy Williams is the scum of the earth. He was jealous of LSU being in the tourney for so many straight years. UNC was the only team that had a longer run than LSU.

I hate to sound ignorant, but what did Roy Williams do to hurt LSU??? I didn't follow this situation much at all. I know it had to do with the recruitment of Lester Earl. I know he commited to LSU but never played. I know Earl did play at Kansas. I always assumed that he was recruited illegally, and that LSU did do something wrong.

LSU is still feeling the effects of the Lester Earl probation
hasn't LSU gone to a final 4 since the probation?

The minute LSU signed guys like Brandon Brass, Big Baby, and Taz the effects were over.. If not before then. We're feeling the effects of no coach being able to maintain consistency.

He was feeling really charitable in getting Earl to play for them, blah, blah blah. If LSU did what HE said they did, then Wiliams should have backed way off of him. The whole doctor for his mom thing and all.
Roy Williams is a scum bag AAU slime who just happens to be white. Then he turned around and F'd Kansas. ask them how they feel about him. Most die hard Jayhawk fans can't stand his sorry arse now.

Lester did play for LSU. He started several games early as a freshman but soon proved he only had two shots - a dunk and a missed dunk. He was a man among boys in HS but in college he truly sucked and when he was told he wouldn't start he quit.
Roy "piece of crap" Williams' involvement came when he ILLEGALLY recruited a player that was on scholarship with another school (LSU) but because Roy was coaching in the town that was home to the Gestapo bastards at that time, neither he nor the school ever got as much as a slap on the wrist while LSU was bent over and violated.
There were no violations, only lies that Lester tried to undo fifteen years later (presumably because he was down and out and needed Dale's help and forgiveness).
Granted, Lester was only 19 at the time and faced with never being allowed to play in the NCAA unless he fingered Dale but quitting and lying are not traits that serve you well in life.
Though they could get you a $2 million coaching job...
