Did Brandon Taylor really make E Reid that much better?

I know that he didnt have Mo or HB on the corners to help him out this year, but I really think that losing Brandon Taylor was a bigger blow to E Reid's production. He seemed lost at times and he and Loston seemed to be out of sync on multiple occasions. I think that B Taylor was a much bigger part of the defense than he gets credit for. He was a manimal.

Taylor, Cooper, Mathieu, Brooks, Claiborne.

Lot of horsepower in coaching and bodies. Tough to put up the same numbers with a caved in chest and various and sundry leg issues.

I think he tried to do too much at times trying to make up for the loss of experience around him.

Gotta admit, I am pretty concerned with our db's right now. Not with the new guys, but the guys who played/started last year. TSimon was terrible this year and Reid wasnt too great either. I was pleasantly surprised with Loston though. Thought he had a pretty good season. I hope another offseason with the new coach will work out the kinks.

I could see that, but man Brooks was so sneaky good, you could give it to him too, no?

I agree. He always seemed to take responsibility for any of the mistakes he made, which is a great quality, but you better correct them too.

It s mor e of that he had to take on a lot of Taylor responsibilities. He had to worry abut aligning the rest of the secondary instead of just doing his thing.

But that's just my opinion

Yes, and TM7 and Brooks made the CBs that much better too.

Brooks would be my #2 on that list.

i think we'll know if the DBU mindset is still apart of LSU when next season comes around. This season was a product of losing Claiborne,TM7,Brooks & Taylor all in one year.

That would not really explain the bad angles and missed assignments. Cooper being gone may, but not the corners as much. I guess if he was cheating over to help them out, but we should have been better prepared for that

In your opinion, was this a good job of coaching this season? After losing all of those guys and some depth from guys who hadnt played yet, he had to spend a ton of time teaching fundamentals.

Or did he do a poor job, seeing as he had some of the best talent in college to work with? The group as a whole wasnt bad this year, but we have been spoiled in the past.

our nickel and dime/mustang packages routinely blitz the slot dbs and ask the safeties to cover man to man. Reid and Loston aren't adept at that. Taylor was a converted CB who did a better job of it.

and besides that, he took some horrible angles a few times this year. also I think the sternum injury affected the way he tackled.

Hate to say it, but early on this year Reid was being misued. They kept lining him up man on slot receivers and he simply cant cover like that. Reid got better as the year went along and they figured out it was better to put Eugene and Collins on slot receivers instead of cheating Reid up from centerfield.

I'd say it was a average job.

The positive is that younger guys got PT time this year and it seems like the future will be bright. The negative is that after the Alabama game we just didn't have that aggressive secondary that was around in the beginning of the season. The passing games got progressively better with each game [Bama,Ole Miss,Arky & Clemson]

Good evalutation. I hope that Reid sticks around for another year. He can be much better when healthy and used properly. I wouldn mind seeing Simon head out. I just dont like the way he plays. He is a PI call waiting to happen. He seems to get flagged or burnt any time the ball is thrown his way.
