It is not 1974 with college teams playing 11 games and maybe a bowl. LSU has played 14 and 13 games in the seasons Kelly has coached, which means he’s lost 4 and 3 games respectively. Based on an era where winning 10 games mattered, he’s 7-4/8-3 coach.

So I ask you. What SEC coach would you rather have over him? Is there anyone other than Kirby and Sark? I think you’ll probably say Lane but in reality if we had Lane people would be more frustrated with him than BK.

You are wasting your time. Just accept that there are a ton of very stupid very loud people on this board. There’s no point in engaging with overly opinionated stupid people. They do t want any part of your rational thoughts.

LSU always seems to find a way to frick itself and it is so damn frustrating.

3 National Championships in 20 years. Many schools wish they were this fricked.

$10 million for 10 years wasn’t a hint? He must be a dumb MOFO.

And won the SEC West his first year. Does Orgeron get any credit here? Or do we just disparage Ed when Bk fails?

but he's done nothing to deserve that kind of money.

Except having one of the highest winning percentage of any current coach that’s coached for more than a couple years.

BK is a good coach. No, he’s not Nick Saban. No one is. Hell without the luxury of the shite Alabama was allowed to get away with, Nick Saban isn’t even “Nick Saban”. You people that are expecting championships every year are out of you fricking minds. Sure, you may have a team that wins a couple back to back but stretching that out beyond that is damn near impossible especially in college football today. In fact, I’d wager those of us over 40 might see at most one more team to win back to back titles with current college football rules. Roster management is far more difficult than it’s ever been. (Personally I think this is a good thing because I think we will start seeing more diversity in teams who actually win championships now).

At worst, BK is going to keep LSU in the 10 to 11 wins per season average. While that may not be the “goal” for LSU, it’s still respectable and keeps the program relevant. In short, the wheels will not come off the bus under BK and whoever replaces him will be set up (if he’s a good enough coach) to win a championship.

If the ellipsis at the end of my comment wasn't clear enough, I was being sarcastic and I did not really think we were either tough or physical under O after 2019.

Orgeron gets all the credit in the world for building up a single team/season.

Kelly is trying to build a sustainable program.

No major coach in P4 is taking a highly incentive based contract. You’re living in fantasy land if you think any HC would sign that deal

I think he underestimated the amount of “fans” that have zero investment in supporting this team and programs that demand it to be excellent and have money to spend on improvements and NIL

39 scholarship players left. Really?

I doubt Ed Orgeron wants credit for his last year here. It isn't credit that's handed out for that year, it's blame.

BK knows what the expectations are. He really has done a good job overall. Will he win a championship? No, he won’t. He just doesn’t have it. Last year was the only year he could’ve done it. He won’t have another chance at an offense like that ever again.

But despite that, he was a good hire. Woodward chose a low risk low reward hire as opposed to a guy who was looked at as having a higher ceiling but less of a proven record (Napier… and look how that worked out).

Orgeron had the program in a tailspin and it was a year away from becoming a hole incredibly difficult to dig yourself out of. 9-3 at least keeps us relevant. But this year it’s looking like we might go 8-4 or 7-5 honestly.

It would have been better to give him guaranteed $3,000,000 for 5 years with $750,000 for 10 win season, $1,000,000 for SEC championship, $1,000,000 for get in playoffs and $1,000,000 for winning a national championship.

I can see guaranteeing a much smaller base say a $1M or $2M with the remainder being incentivized.

Not at all. Use incentives to make him the highest paid. If he performs he makes measurably more than any coach. If not then he’s paid for what he does produce. If LSU ends up in the middle of the pack then he’s paid about half of what the coach who wins the title game is paid.

This. There's no one.

Lane

I love all of these posters saying Lane Kiffin (in hindsight no less), when there's been 0 proof that he can coach a big time program like LSU. He's failed miserably at the only other big stops he's been at with USC and Tennessee. Lane a perfect fit for Ole Miss where expectations are historically low and he can hit on college co-eds on the weekend.

He said before last season started that he believed they’d compete for a championship by year 3. I sure the hell ain’t seeing it
