This surprised me. I know about the hype and all, but the kid broke the 2 deep. Congrats.

I'm just glad the coaches have him at the Will. They were staunch last year about recruiting him as a Mike, but he just doesn't have the frame for it. Hopefully Theriot will fill in at MLB (they recruited him for the Will position).

he's probably not familiar with him since he wasn't recruited by his in-state schools

He'll likely be the frontrunner, but Kellen Theriot and Kevin Minter will be pushing him.

Biggest surprises to me:

Jefferson is listed at the top of the depth chart with the OR along with Hatch and Lee. Yea, yea that may not mean a lot, but IMO it means something.

Where is Edwards? Just not listed because he might be the #1 H-back and that position isn't listed? Counting Edwards at TE, Caleb Angelle beat out 3 scholarship TEs. Although two are true freshman, one a redshirt, and Caleb might have a scholly by now anyway.

Brooks at CB above Phelon Jones. Brooks has superior quickness, but I am still surprised he beat Phelon out.

I think it primarily means Les Miles made out the depth chart...

really the only surprise on that chart as far as I'm concerned is Ryan Baker making the 2 deep instead of Kellen Theriot. I really thought Theriot's size and the fact that he was here early would give him the advantage.

Baker plays at the position with less depth (WLB instead of MLB). Baker's played the LB position throughout high school... Theriot is a converted option QB. So for a number of reasons, he's further along at this point than Theriot.

God knows Les is crazy with the written depth chart, but still he made a conscious decision to put Jefferson on it toe to toe with Hatch and Lee, when previous statements wouldn't have you think he would do that. (Even though he has praised Jefferson all over the place.) Again, might not mean a lot, I just wonder what made him put that little two letter word in there.

he just said in his presser that the 2 older guys certainly have the advantage...but it sounds like he expects Jefferson to see quite a bit of action this year.

I just wonder if its not his way of saying, "I could see conceivable scenarios where this guy will start sometime during the season."

I think perry riley is gonna suprise a lot of people this year. He really impressed me last year for the few snaps he played.
