Denver Harris looks to take advantage of second chance at LSU

Often lost in the shuffle of the transfer portal is the due diligence that teams and coaches due in vetting their newest additions. This was the process that cornerback Denver Harris had to go through before officially joining the LSU roster. Harris met with the coaching staff multiple times before both sides agreed that the structure and organization would be a good fit for him going forward.

“We did a lot of research. This was not a decision where said this is just a great player,” Brian Kelly told the media on Tuesday. “We did our due diligence and met with him several times. He had a lot of people speak on his behalf and a number of interviews with Coach House and myself. We felt with the culture that we had put together here that he would make it.”

Harris struggled to stay on the field at Texas A&M last season, missing seven games due to suspension. However in the five games that he did play, Harris demonstrated why he was rated so highly. He displayed the ability and potential to be an SEC corner, in which Kelly noted that LSU could be his last chance to live out that reality.

We feel like that with the circumstances of culture being strong here and him knowing that this is really his last chance at an SEC opportunity that is worth the risk. So far it’s been good.”

Harris’s talent has never been in question. 247Sports national scouting analyst Gabe Brooks touted the Houston, Texas native as “one of the nation's top cornerbacks in his class. Should be a high-floor prospect with developmental upside given frame and instincts. Projects as a potential impact player in a power conference with long-term NFL Draft early-round potential.”
