LSU has a boom or bust defense.

I think it's necessary with our talent deficiencies. Go for the big play and try to steal extra possessions for your offense. We don't have the talent to win the majority of plays but Baker can make sure that the plays we do win are more impactful

Yeah, also when the defensive end doesn't set the edge makes it hard for LB's. As there was a couple of plays when Reliford just rush straight up the field and the rb ran right past him on the outside.

There are a lot of positives to take away from this game.
Defense forced a few three n outs

I think Baker realizes his secondary can not cover for long periods. He’s deciding to bring pressure to mask the inefficiency of the secondary. When we don’t get home quickly or put pressure on the QB it leverages big plays. LB being out of position in the wrong gap, edge containment or the secondary being exposed.

No doubt. That’s just who we are and who we’ll have to be. We are going give up big plays. But if we can be just a little more disciplined and cut those big plays in half, the defense could continue to be good enough to give our offense a chance.

I think they did a great job of that in the USCw game. They got big stops when they had to have them, but our offense couldn’t take advantage.

Your havoc rates are always higher than what espn 104.5 reports. Thoughts on that?

I think the motion sucked everybody in, it worked for us a few times. That's just discipline to stay home.

No thoughts really. I use the formula from the33rdteam.com.

Agreed

When you don’t have any players on D that can win one on one’s (talent gap), you’re gonna have to scheme

When you bring numbers, you’re exposing your coverage, which means there’s gonna be Burns and Ryan back there trying to make TD saving tackles. LOL

I’d rather walk blindfolded over 8 lanes of highway traffic during rush hour. It boils down to turnovers, honestly

I like the defense, and can’t imagine how good it would be if they had better players on defense.

Boom or bust is the correct approach for this defense. We are very solid at CB, but outside of that, without Baker’s playcalling & blitz looks it’s just bust.

I agree with this. We are not going to just force three and outs. For the two long runs allowed yesterday, the defense forced turnovers deep in USC territory which should have resulted in 14 points to cancel the busts out. If you look at it this way, that is four possessions of zero points net which is better than a bend bend bend and allow time consuming drives against.

I'm sure most of that came in the 2nd half after Sellers left the game.

Doesnt matter if we're still giving up multiple explosive plays that keeps teams in the game.
You have no idea what havoc is, do you?

Sellers was sacked 2 times and threw a pick and fumbled the ball.

Im so tired of people acting like Sellers was some crazy player that would have won the game for them. Sellers fumbled the ball 3 times vs Kentucky. He fumbled and threw a pic vs LSU in one half. With the way we got after Ashford, Sellers would have turned the ball over a couple more times.

What people really need to be saying is, what if LSU didn't keep fricking themselves over? The bad snap, the pic in the redzone, the goal line debacle, going for 2, not getting the kick set up on the XP. If you think about it, and give them the 7 points for the 2nd pic 6, we still should have had 2 points on XPs, kicked a FG on 4th and 1 at the goal, and at worst, without the bad snap, that's another chip shot FG. That's 8 easy points left on the table. So if that 7 on the 2nd pic 6 gives them 40, then our miscues give us 44.
