The ACC was not worse than the Big East back then. Also, you can try to take away from it all you want, but Clemson still had salty defenses in 2009 and 2010.

Doing mental gymnastics just to take a shite on our coaches. Hope you shite your pants while doing so.

If Nick Saban didnt want Steel, he would have never been rehired in an admin position or as LB coach.

You people suck.

The OP is correct in that the correct position for all Tiger fans should be to reserve judgment.

That said, people are hired based on their reputation, their resume and who they know in every business and professional setting.

When your resume does not match the standard of your new employer, then it makes people justifiably wonder what is going on.

I think this hire is akin to a person that finishes in the middle of their law school class at LSU getting a job at a big Houston law firm like Vincent & Elkins.

It makes you wonder how it happened. It makes you skeptical about who they knew and how they played a role. It also, though, for the pragmatic, does not mean it was a bad hire. The resources available at such a firm can make a person with an average resume appear much better and have great results.

Same thing here. I personally think that when coupled with Orgeron, our defense will not take a step back to any great extent. It is important to remember that directly because of Chavis LSU lost to Alabama at home the last two times Bama was in BR. LSU lost to Clemson and Notre Dame. LSU got trucked by State and Auburn because, among other things, our defensive scheme did not adjust to the offense.

That said, more times than not, LSUs defense was well above average under Chavis, and for that reason, Steele has big shoes to fill.

Steele's success or failure will determine whether or not Miles is allowed to retire in Baton Rouge, bottom line.

Well stated. Quality post that just about covers the whole issue.

this is a typical CLM hire Get use to it CLM will not hire anyone he does not have a relationship to, will not cowtow to his coaching insanity or anyone who could upstage him. CLM is a type of a control freak but a different type than Saban( who is a perfectionist control freak) CLM controls things that don't need controlling and does not control things that do need controlling That being said- He is our coach , it is a new season

Seriously though. This whole board, not just TR (especially SECr) lacks quality posters. Just get frustrated in everything automatically being about conspiracy and somehow always ending up leading to JJ/JL conversation. Supposed to be a forum of conversation.

Just ranting now. Just wish people didn't shite over each other here. Degrades the board.

That being said, I'm excited about CKS. He and O have a buzz going around them. Recruiting well already both this past year and already in the future. People say the expect our D to take a step back. Really not sure how this conclusion comes out. Return most starters, minus Kwon, Hunter, and Rasco. All young great talent. Especially considering our D got shite on early in the season. Multiple reasons for this. No reason to get all into it. Basically just need CKS to just put a good game plan.

Honestly, really trust this coaching staff. Not necessarily a "pumper mentality", but he'll, not many schools can say they've enjoyed the run we have. Going to be really hard to screw things up with quality position coaches and talented players. Biggest thing now is managing expectations. Rest of the west is starting to get relatively strong and the east "appears" to be making a run at it

Ramble ramble. Go America.
Got to through in my Pro-Army attitude today as I do paperwork :( Navy sucks.

Steele has forgotten more football than the rantards will ever know. What makes a good coach is talent.lsu will be fine. Guy has worked with saban, dom capers, and rex ryan.

Obviously, you are not objective. LSU is not a top 5 program. Maybe to 10, but not a sure thing.

No order

FSU, Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon and who else would round out that top 5? What is your criteria?

Our last 5 years include 4 10+ win seasons, 2 11+ win seasons, an SEC conference championship win and national championship appearance. Just because we had one year in the past 5 where we didn't get double digit wins, does not knock us out of that top five. We are now consistently getting top 5 talent as well.

I mean shite, who else would you put in there, Auburn, UGA, Oklahoma, Baylor, Michigan St maybe? Nah, LSU is a top 5 program.

Personally, I'm always in the wait and see category. This includes coaches and 4 and 5 star recruits. At this point, None of us know how KS will do at LSU. The spring game certainly did not tell us much. I agree the former USCw guy seemed to have a better resume. Give Steele a chance.
