but you can't do what we had done until this year (well, from 2009-2018) and believe an amazing D alone can do it
i had this argument many times in 2011 when i kept trying to tell people 2006 LSU > 2011 LSU, because while 2006's D wasn't as good as 2011, it was good enough to shut down that offense. people finally saw this on 1/9

All these teams have very good defenses except for Oklahoma but they were almost left out and would have been if Auburn, Georgia, Bama, or Florida played in their league.
So no I’d say great defense coupled with a top offense now wins championships. You have to have both these days and that’s the difference. Back in the day they didn’t pass like we do now. That’s the bottom line.
