1st game against Wisconsin, the defense was the only reason we had an opportunity to win, scoring half of our points in that game.
2nd game against JSU, we held a spread zone read offense team that averaged almost 40 pts a game last year and had scored over 30 the previous week to 13 pts. Also, when our offense netted zero 1st downs in the 1st qtr, the defense kept us in the game by giving up zero points. There was one busted coverage that allowed for the long TD, other than that it was a solid performance, giving up only 2 field goals. we had 3 sacks and 1 int, decent pressure against a spread zone read offense.
While the players are still getting comfortable with a new defensive scheme this year I am completely satisfied with them to this point in the season.
thanks dude because I really hate the rant. Donte jackson is lights out and the same people thats on him probably was on T mathieu every week about his coverage to. Reciever will catch passes end of story. Busted coverage happens end of story. get over it

No he's not. He clearly had trouble saturday night.

I don't understand how you sunshine pumpers can't take any criticism whatsoever. Our defense did not look great last night. We allowed 250 in the air and 130 on the ground. That isn't good against an FCS team. And i understand they are the best in the FCS. That means they are probably ranked in the 30's/40's in the FBS. We had trouble with them Saturday. That is a fact. I'm simply acknowledging that and for those that review our games to much detail, i was wondering what our glaring weaknesses are. You know, like the guys last week that broke down our offensive line failures.
My perception is that Jackson isn't very good at coverage. Doesnt' mean he'll never be good. Just saying he looked bad Saturday. Take out the tampon and breathe. I agree, i hate the rant as well. But it's because of the posters here, about 15% are rational, the rest will either lose their minds if you criticize anything during a win, and the others will lose their minds when you point out anything positive about the game.
Be a rational human and not a 15 year old girl.

I think Kiffin is so good at building those kids confidence over the season that they play outside of their abilities. Which is great for Alabama, they do a great job calling plays that make their players play to their best abilities. I wish we could do something like that.
I have no clue why you got down votes with this? This is spot on

I get that, but who were their opponents? Yes they play some division 1 teams, but majority is against division 2 schools. Not exactly apples to apples. That's the problem simply looking at statistics and nothing else.

And i mostly agree. I don't think "nothing is wrong with the defense". I think that's a silly statement. We need to improve and get comfortable in running a 3-4. Saturday, we did not look comfortable.

Growing pains and going against a dynamic QB.

They have weapons and a mobile qb. They will wear on a Dline quickly, slowing down the pass rush. Donte was picked on all night. They need to find an answer for him, but defense overall played a good ball game.

look at pelini's first 2 games at LSU
New systems are going to have an adjustment period

coming from a former college DB...he is absolutely not. He cannot play in space whatsoever, he's like a sports car with no anti-lock brakes lol. Put him at nickle where he can benefit from his acceleration or let him play slot receiver where I feel he would contribute the most. He's a liability right now and teams like OM are gonna light his arse up esp. whiffing on tackles.

The lack of a pass rush is a bit concerning. However, Jenkins is a dangerous, experienced QB. The last thing LSU wanted to to was come flying up the field on a pass rush and run right by him, allowing him to step up and take off down field. Outside of Kelly, Jenkins may be the best QB LSU faces all year.
I still don't think LSU has the personnel to play the 3-4 all game long. Neal is too small at DE. Gilmore stands up and gets blown back. The OLBs are really more 4-3 ends than OLBs. That said, except for a few miscues, I don't think the D was THAT bad against an experienced and good offense. You have to remember, that backfield (Jenkins and Thomas) has too guys that could very well be SEC starters (one was)

Our forte at one time was excellent tackling in the secondary. We seem to have lost that edge the last few years. There are exceptions, White and Adams, but as a whole not so good.
Of course you have to been in "position" to make tackles...I'll reserve judgment for now.

Motivation is a must for championship teams.
People down voted you, but this has been true as long as there has been sports.
Motivation leads to confidence which leads to playing to the best of your abilities.
