He means that Jordan Jefferson was touted as the starter and it was essentially his job to lose. But either through Jefferson's lack of development or Lee's hard work, he is still putting up a fight
This and by eye-witness accounts Lee outplayed JJ in the last scrimmage. Holding off Garrett's attempt to take the back-up spot as well.

Good, competition is good for this team...no one should be handed anything after last year...except maybe K shep, PP, and RR

me, the defining moment for JJ is when he left the most important game of the season against Alabama with an ankle injury. He stood on the sideline the rest of the game without crutches, yet he didn't try to reenter the game for a single play and to fight through it. That threw up a huge red flag about his leadership qualities to me.
you mean when he was speared?
Get the frick out of here

I tend to agree...I think he really got pulled.

in the alabama game?
yes...I was at the game and Miles looked pissed that JJ took that sack. He received virtually no medical attention on the sideline, QB's come back into the game all the time after hits like that.

my goodness we have a clueless coach, HOPING a QB becomes good instead of making him good. a slow death is LSU football.

I think it's clear that Lee has held off Garrett, but is also on JJ's arse. And as bad as that sounds for JJ, it's a good thing for LSU.
Agreed. No matter who starts next year, he has to be better than the guys who started in 08 and 09 and if what Miles is saying is true, there is a good shot that will be the case.
Someone has already said this, but there are only about 4 guys on the roster who should have guaranteed jobs and none of them play QB.

I think its absolutley dumb to call this JJ's team.
Reason being is, he hasnt dont anything IMO to seperate himself.
Its gonna be a LONG spring and summer on here if JJ doesnt look to be the clear cut this saturday.

so they LSU football players are dumb?
quote:
LSU Coach Les Miles said he wants to see the Tigers become "Jefferson's team."
So far so good.
"I guess you can call it swagger, " Jefferson said. "It's kind of getting comfortable. I'm starting to recognize and getting more familiar with everything. I'm learning different things every day that are going to help me in the future.
"Things are clicking better, I'm starting to recognize things I wasn't familiar with last year. It's helping me a lot, making reads quicker, stopping blitzes. I've progressed."
Everyone seems to have noticed the new Jefferson. He walks around with a different air about him and seems more in command, even when he isn't chatting up the defense or correcting a formation.
Respectful and timid has been replaced by assertive and informative.
"He's taken that jump, " said freshman wide receiver Russell Shepard, who has sought out Jefferson's advice more than a few times. "He's going to have an amazing junior campaign. He's watching more film, lifting hard, running hard and he's been very vocal."
Running back Stevan Ridley said even when Jefferson isn't talking, he's sending out strong vibes that there's a new sheriff in town.
"You can tell the way he's carrying himself and his body language that he's more comfortable, " Ridley said. "He's the head guy. The players pick up on that. The quarterback is where it all starts, the general. If Jordan is confident, you're confident too."

Only problem is all those quotes are 2-3 weeks old.
LM quotes in this very thread are a tad more relevant and current.

and he has a couple of throws where he could stand up and make them … and he didn’t do it.
so he had one mediocre 2 minute drill and all of a sudden the quotes from his team mates are null and void?
you = hack

grow a brain. There is a huge difference in walking around with swagger and a good vibe and showing it in a game.
Miles says he still aint there

The bigger question is when or IF he will get there? Just taking more repetitions without meaningful coaching does not cause significant improvement. While JJ appears to have natural athletic ability, he does not appear to have natural QB skills (throwing motion and pocket presence most notably) and if not seriously coached up, and a commitment on his part to spend the additional time watching film, working with his receivers, etc., then we are in for another long year...

down playing someone not getting the job done arent we doc....just because somone (JJ)goes around saying what he's gonna do doesnt mean its actually gonna happen.... Id rather him keep his mouth shut and show me on the field what he's about...let the scoreboard do all the talking...
