GrandDad, I agree with what they are attempting to do from a safety perspective. But from most accounts it appears these new bats will not even perform up to wood standards. It isn't even about HRs so you can spare me the knowledgable fan line. Extra base hits are going to become rare because the ball doesn't come off the bat even when squared up. Well hit balls aren't going to shoot the gap or get down the line.
And the line about the pitcher and the right fielder is ignorant no matter how you slice it. The pitcher is always going to be in more danger, even if the batter is swinging a wet newspaper. The pitcher is about 55 feet away and the right fielder is almost 300 feet away. It isn't rocket science.

Is HS using these bats as well?
I hope they rethink these bats I hate pitching duels and Im already having to convince my wife to let me renew my season tickets as it is. Sounds like we will be playing cabbage ball this year.

I feel for you, I have a feeling these bats might be tweaked after this season or next.

Remind me again, how many pitchers/fielders have died because of a batted ball? If we are really worried about everyone's safety, let's just use these...

Not suprising most of you guys think this is a travesty, very few baseball purist left in this town these days.Did you not just watch a great World Series where the pitching rightfully dominated the games? Just because you can't hit homeruns off the handle or the end of the bat anymore takes nothing away from the spirit of the game.Hit the ball square, run the bases properly, make the plays defensively, execute at the plate when called upon to move the runners and pitch well..........you win.WTF is wrong with that.

How many homeruns did we hit last year?
Posted on 11/5/10 at 9:47 am to josh336
Yea the Irvines & UTs of the world are loving the new bats. Guarantee ya Augie or Gillespie have no problems w/ the change.
frick small ball, I'd rather see a 15-5 type game then a no-no. Chicks (& Honkus) dig the long ball.

78 HR's
On a positive note Kevin Gausman and Ryan Eades will be FR. ALL-SEC pitchers this season.

So we averaged a little over a homer a game, don't think it'll be that big of a difference as far as homers go, we'll prob see less doubles though

good to know, I heard Eades looked good in game 1, Gausman not so much

Had a close buddy who was out there. Said Alsup looked very very good along with Ott.
The newcomers are maturing quickly. I'm interested to see whether Snikeris or Ross gets the nod opening night.

Good to hear, I'm expecting big things from both those guys this year

Damn, Snikeris could beat out Ross? Didn't think much of it, but I guess I've never really seen them play either.

Ross has more upside, but Snikeris the transfer with experience. I still expect Ross to win the job if he doesn't in Jan.

Didn't the Giants hit a home run in each of their victories? Home runs are part of the game. If the college players can't even hit them out in batting practice with these new piece of crap NCAA bats, how are they going to hit them out in the game?
