I don't think Mathieu is really that bad in coverage. I think he just chooses to take risks in coverage to make the big play. He was one of the best coverage corners in the nation coming out of HS.

Him on the outside doesn't bother me. Would I rather him in the middle with a 6'0 guy that is excellent in coverage on the ousside? Sure. But TM can hold his own on the outside too. The only way a CB can stop a perfect throw and catch from the QB and WR is to guess the route and jump it and make a play, and if a CB makes a habit of that he will get burned.

I did notice he had trouble against taller receivers such as Da'Rick Rogers. I am not worried about him on the outside as long as the size mismatch is minimized. He just needs to not take as many gambles when playing on an island.

I'm thinking David Jenkins with TM7 swapping in half the time depending on the offensive look.

Neither Mo or Mathieu looked fast while returning kicks/punts. They are just very hard to tackle. I think they both can play slot receiver if asked to. Yeah, I think their ball skills and yards after catch are just that good.

None for 2011. Cost us the Arky game in 2010 during the zero blitz. I do not doubt Mathieu's skills in coverage at all. He just needs a little more risk assessment in certain situations.

I bet you were crying about PP7 sucking in coverage during the aTm bowl game when Jeff Fuller caught 7 or 8 passes on him for over 10 yards a pop, huh?

Can you list me every time TM7 has gotten beat in coverage during his career at LSU?

I don't recall TM7 ever being outright beaten. He was always there with the receiver. There is only so much he could do when the ball is thrown perfectly or when he's covering a guy who is 6'3" with hops.

exactly.

He's made some risky attemps that cost him a couple times (i.e trying to strip a ball on WR when no one is there helping him make the tackle or jumping a route for a pick but being too late on it), but as far as him being burned or getting straight up beat in coverage, it doesnt happen very often.

yeah, I was upset when Brooks ran a 4.45 on his first run, but that 4.35 is much of what I expected. Dude is blazing fast.

You can tell these genius on this board that 100 times and they still won't get it! Add all the passes caught on matheiu the whole year and it's one good game for a good college reciever. How many times was he beat when he lined up on the outside?? The answer is none because they always beat him on the post route out the slot on a perfect throw.
