Oh boy he really got a hold of that one. That ball is crushed DEEP to left field. And Wes Davis calls off Larson and will make the catch in foul territory down the LF line to end the inning.

Me and my dad where in Memphis in 1996.
I remember when it was bottom of the ninth and Warren Morris was up to bat.
We were down to Miami and morris hadn't hit a hr all year.
Jim hawthorn Said "delivers the pitch, long fly ball to right field, that's way back there, that's way back there... Home run.... Tigers win! Tigers win ! its a 3 run home run and the Tigers are the national champions, I do not believe it.
It's first home run OF THE YEAR! holy cow!

You losers need to get off JH dick... The man has made all the great LSU calls that we love the past 25 plus years... And it done with tremendous passion and pride.
I wouldn't trade him for anyone.

Why am I not surprised that you are the one up Hawthorne's arse. The moment I saw this thread I wondered how long it would take for you to chime in with your absurdity.

My Absurdity, really? ?

Guy has managed to keep same job longer than you've more than likely been alive.

Carry on though, you know better than the folks that sign old Jim's paycheck.
Absurdity huh?

Dan Borne cost LSU the 2008 Bama game by talking over the loadspeaker while LSU was kicking a fieldgoal. That LSU miss was the difference.

So is that supposed to be a coon arse or a Ninth Ward resident? Two very very different things.

Dan Borne is good, but believe it or not, the guy before him was even better and more legendary. It's odd that his name seems to have been forgotten by you youngsters, but Sid Crocker was an outstanding PA announcer! He was the announcer during heyday of Dale Brown Basketball, and many legendary football games.

quote:

Sidney F. " Sid " Crocker

A native of DeRidder, he was born Oct. 19, 1923, to Sid and Evelyn Barrick Crocker . He died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at his home in Baton Rouge. Sid served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1947, aboard the battleships USS Nevada and USS Iowa and was present at D-Day and Pearl Harbor. He attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and worked for radio stations in southwest Louisiana before coming to Baton Rouge in 1953. He worked for WAFB radio and TV for 30 years and will be remembered as the "voice" of Senor Puppet on the Buckskin Bill Show. He also was the public address announcer for LSU sporting events for 30 years (191 straight football games).

Perhaps the guys that sign JH's paycheck keep him on because he brings in money for the school. That's all well and good. If that's what you need him for, then let him go to town and keep bringing in the cash.

Being a good fundraiser, though, does not make one a good play-by-play announcer. There are better ones than JH out there. LSU deserves better.

Sid Crocker and John Ferguson were the best.

I respect the fact that a lot of younger fans grew up with Jim Hawthorne's calls, and to them that's a big part of the LSU tradition.

But it's gotten bad. Very bad. Too bad.

Let's ignore the fact that about half of Hawthorne's greatest calls were wrong. (They had to dub in Henderson's name post facto for the Music City Miracle.) Put aside the fact that he's whiny, apocalyptic and "woe is us" whenever things go even slightly wrong in a game.

The worst thing is that he's just plain lost. Doesn't report the game correctly -- whether it's players' names/numbers, penalties, strategy and really anything.

Doug Moreau is very good, and a true gentleman. I have enormous respect for his patience and kindness, and don't know how he restrains himself from correcting Hawthorne in every instance except the most egregious circumstances.

It's long past time for a change. Time to start a new tradition and end the embarrassment.
