I will argue that the most talented team Dale ever had and one of if not the best ever assembled was the 1989-90 LSU Team. Shaq, Chris Jackson Mo Williamson, Stanley Roberts, Wayne Sims, Vernel Singleton, Harold Boudreaux and yes Geert Hammick. All three years Shaq was there Dale had unbelievable talent and we could never get over the hump in the NCAA Tournament. Just imagine, Shaq, Chris Jackson and Stanley Roberts on the floor at the same time with great role players in Singleton, Wayne Sims and MO Williamson. The only knock was they were all Freshman and Sophmores.

They just never had the right chemistry, and perhaps a few other shortcomings.
The 1981 team had its All American player as well, but they had marvelous chemistry. 27 straight wins will probably never happen again. They really were the best team that year.

Those years were so much fun. Got to go to most of the home games from '79 to '81 and fell in love with Dale and what he was doing. Would listen to all of the games on the radio if not there.
Does anyone else remember Dales weekly "Inside LSU Basketball" show? The bumper clips showed highlights and there were dunks by Al Green and Scales that were amazing. Wish I could find that footage.
Scales really tarnished himself and ended up hurting the team that year.

This team had no point guard. It would have been nice to have senior point guard Fess Irvin running this team. As for the players...
Shaq was not yet the player he would become over the next two years. He lived in foul trouble.
CJ was CJ...which meant the best scorer in the country. If you remember, he suffered the whole year with his medication doses and it did effect his game. Georgia Tech game appeared to be most apparent, as he was held in single digits.
Williamson was very inconsistant.
Roberts spent the whole season 30 pounds over weight. Dale even benched him for a short period. This guy should have been great.
Sims and Singleton were great assets and played well. Boudreaux was average.
Geert was a project. He developed nicely, but he was not near ready to take minutes from Shaq and Roberts.

Classic...remember when Dale used to call Roshto at the bar to teach him "the freak" defense.

Then Dale would recap his trip to the Mattehorn with pictures. The show came on very late I remember. I'd stay up late watching.

One of these days Dale is going to find Bigfoot. I still have faith in the man.

He wanted to go on a hunt with experts to find pieces of the boat to prove that it existed.

'81 was tops! No doubt. Scales was great, but Hi-C was more versatile and had more discipline. I miss those BB days.

Question for all the Dale Brown faithful:
During his tenure at LSU, what percentage of the BB players he recruited actually received degrees from LSU? What percentage went on to the NBA? What percentage of BB players did he ruin in the process?

No. 79-80 was better. All those guys were a year older. They should have won it all that year... and I know that they would have, if Scales hadn't gotten himself disqualified for agent-talking.
Scales participated in the '80 post-season. Actually was the SECT MVP. It' was the '79 post-season Dale barred him from. They lost in the Sweet 16' to Magic and MSU. Not likely Scales turns those table completely but he could have helped. In '80, Scales was playing superbly until the elite 8 game when he suddenly became a ball-hog and went stone cold from the floor in the second half against Louisville. The '81 team likely wins it all without Macklin's freak injury in the elite 8 victory in New Orleans.

I was there. I must be getting real old cause few seem to remember that era. Scales was as exciting as any player I've seen at LSU. And I saw Pete.

In case you did not know, most people don't give two shits about this stuff. This is proven everytime Trent loses a game and the rant wants to hire Bruce Pearl.
If you are really interested, why don't you tell us how many players Dale "ruined" in the process. I bet guys like Geert Hammick and Jose Vargas are greatful they had a chance to play here.

i loved singleton, but hated that stupid band-aid that he would wear under his eye

Ahh, the famous band aid. Most people here seem to love it. I'm just amazed how many people remember it.

I don't recall the band-aid being anywhere but his shoulder. Post a picture, if you have one, of a band-aid on Vernel's face.

Scales was something else. He was 6'9" with offensive skills. He could grab the top of the backboard. Too bad he was a little too much of a head case. He was one of the most talented players to play at LSU. I try to imagine a team of Maravich, Scales, Shaq and a bunch of defensive stoppers and stiffs. That team could win it all now.
