i don't think its a sin to like basketball and im very far from a red neck. It's just that there is a newfound optimism on this board that hasn't existed in a while and basketball is just a sour topic and the news just keeps getting worse.

Three problems with Dale Brown:
Why he couldn't coach in this era!
Graduation rate was lower than LA state sales tax over the years he coached.
He destroyed Randy Livingston's (very best high school basketball player from LA) career by pushing him to play and was re-injured.
Name one player that got better from the day that they set foot on campus to the day they left?
Answer is Zero.
He could recruit - with help and he could motivate. Could he coach X and O's - debateable.

Hey TigaRag:
1981 Tiger Team had Tex Winter on the sideline. He was the X and O's guy. He went on to get several NBA Championship rings with the Chicago Bulls.

No,he wasn't. Winter didn't get to LSU until the 1983-1984 season.

no they didn't .. tex winter came along later .. dale hired rick huckabay when he was recruiting and signed howard carter when both were at redemptorist .. you'd be incorrect on that ..

Good luck with that notion.

things don't improve in anything until people demand that they improve ... had fans not stopped buying season tickets in the early to mid-90s .. joe dean would have had curley hallman coaching here for another few years .. i do understand your sentiment ..

and there are a number of people on this board privy to a lot of the truths that went on ... letting The Advocate be your history book in BR when it comes to the inner workings of the AD is laughable .. if you are over the age of 25 you should know that ...
Very few..and you talking about a "Dr. Brian" proves you are not one of them.

I hate to do this because I agree with most of what you say, But its Dr Redfield Bryan, no t, and he was a Urologist. He and Dale were very close and now they are not. I don't think anyone knows just what happened.

big fricking shite .. i misspelled the guy's last name banging out a post .. BOOM .. SIZZLE .. you got me ..
it is pretty obvious, based on your avatar, where your loyalties lie here .. i worked in the athletic department in a department that would be privy to the entire lester earl fiasco while the whole thing was going down and while dale brown was sliding ... drop the militant, stephen a. smith, "i'm the smartest guy in every thread i am in" shite ... you've obviously bought a line of crap that you have been fed .. no, there are plenty of people that know what transpired in that three-ring circus ... there is NO denying dale brown's impact on LSU basketball -- good and bad, there is also no denying that dale brown hung around three years longer than he should have and left the program in worse shape than press maravich left it in ... dale fricked up professionally in the earl fiasco and just won't admit it, or at least his ego will never let him admit it .. i have fricked up in my career before professionally as have you and many many people on this board ... the shite just happens, that's life .. but i am not going to claim someone in my company set me up and sabotaged me when i was clearly the one that made the mistake ... i think a lot of people would, to this DAY, respect brown more if he'd come clean and admit he made a mistake in trying to return LSU basketball to its glory years ... in the end, the sad thing is that earl wound up not even being fricking worth it !!
there are knowledgeable people in this thread ... every once in awhile, take your fingers out of your ears and listen .. or, in the case of this site, stop and read instead of trying to continually convince yourself and others that you are the smartest guy in every fricking thread you enter ...

i knew his last name wasn't spelled with a "T" .. but i wasn't going to harp on that .. i misspelled his last name like the first name "brian or bryan" gets commonly misspelled .. to me that shite isn't a big deal either way .. but it is kind of funny that the "smartest guy in the thread" was going to hang his hat on a misspelling to dispel the story and he himself butchered the last name far worse to go along with incorrectly noting his area of medical concentration .. oh well ... guess the playing field is level again ..

the whole story is twisted .. after dr. bryan basically admitted to passing the money on to earl to the NCAA, dale pretty much threw him under the bus and acted like he acted alone ... then, years later, here comes lester trying to cover his arse in BR telling everyone he made the whole story up .. then dale clings to that story ?? come on big daddy dale .. which story is it ?

I thought that Dale was never really interested in getting Earl.
And that was mainly because from the games he saw him play in HS, he did not think he was worthy of the hype given to him. I thought the primary reason why Brown recruited Earl was because the fanbase pressured him into doing so.

i guess that's why dale gave lester's brother louis a scholarship as well ..
and i will drop this little sports illustrated article from 1998 before people that are apparently smarter than anyone else claim dr. bryan never admitted to giving earl money:
