I totally agree! Education comes first because if you don't make it, then you have to take at least $20,000 to finsh school. There is no rewards going early if you not going to bank!

IE, right off the bat, any improvement made by waiting has to absorb that $405K into the number. You get that, right?
wrong. you're assuming that extra year in college is robbing him of an extra year in the NFL? that's way too simplified an approach.

A guy who has a 5 year NFL career would have had a 6 year NFL career if he'd had left early? Again, you're ignoring the grind of an NFL season, among other things. That is a couple of tiers above the grind of a college season. Like Shannon Sharp pointed out in the Cincy-SD game, that rookie WR who fumbled on the 5 yard line just does not expect big fast LB'ers catching him and landing on him from behind. He's never seen that in college in most cases.

Um. No. I'm assuming no such thing. I'm simply pointing out that he will be earning zero this year where he could be earning $405K so, whatever he makes in next year's contract has to make up for that loss.

Holy frick man. Do you really think it's rational to not put that $405 in the equation on the assumption that you will get some specific number of future NFL years? Man, you suck at evaluating risk.

For the rest of that list that left, starting with Sam Montgomery, I sincerely believe that the depth of departure had to do with the hangover effect of the failed LSU/Alabama national championship game, during which we have scattered reports of team mutiny, poor moral, infighting, and otherwise a bullshite situation where the team, as it was, was really "hurt" due to some overhanging psychology. These players wanted to get the heck out of LSU, and some busted as a result.

Your Sam Montgomery theory is way more plausible than this:

"An NFC personnel director said he sees both Mingo and Montgomery going in the first round this year. He gave a slight edge to Mingo, whom he sees as a top 20 pick. ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper is even higher on the pair, projecting Mingo as the No. 3 overall pick and Montgomery as the No. 4 overall if they leave after this season. The personnel director said Mingo has a better feel for the game and praised his first step, change of direction and "understanding of how to make himself skinny and make himself small cutting off the edge." He said Montgomery's strengths are rushing the passer, his length and his ability to turn and run. He'd like to see Montgomery a "little more stout at the point of attack in handling those big guys.""

Can you give some examples? Why does Bama keep highly rated players every year? They just did it with Depriest and recently Mccarron/Mosley.

I'm sure the winning multiple national championships will convince guys to stay. But why don't wait a week or 2 before we decide that LSU gets no one to stay while Alabama gets all theirs.

Of players we recently kept for an additional year that could have left? How about I start with players that returned in 2013? This is off the top of my head without looking at anything. Mettenberger, Loston and Barrow could have all turned pro after 2012 but came back.

2012? Russell Sheppard was all but gone and Miles convinced him to stay for another year. Montgomery, Mingo and Minter all could have left after the 2011 season.

I find it hard to believe that's the reason why they're staying. No poor Alabama boy is going to pass millions up for more championships. That's bullshite.

But WHY have 2 mediocre at best DTs been assumed to leave? Because it's the culture of the LSU football program now.

The mentality of these kids is play 3 years and go pro. That's it! If they want their degress, they can always return after the NFL. That's why we have to recruit all positions hard every year. Example - Tre' White & Rashard, they'll play two more years & they're gone. No more development through the system. You need to be SEC ready when you hit campus. If you aren't maybe you get a redshirt, but you jeopardize your spot in the rotation to a true freshmen. As long as the NFL signs kids 3 years removed from high school, nothing will change.

bingo, and that needs to be curtailed, somehow/someway. It directly affects our ability to compete with the other heavyweights in the SEC (West).

Why only at LSU?

What other school has mediocre Dlinemen and fricking GUARDS leaving early with aspirations of the 6th and 7th rounds?

It's a culture at LSU.

well, considering that the NCAA is basically a neutered shell of its former self, time to show up to the gun fight with something more than a butter knife.
