A friend of mine is a big Texas fan. He has seen UT play OU and told me that the Vtech game last year vs Maryland in Blacksburg was the best game he has ever been to

Lane has got alot better after the renovations, its loud b/c its kind of dug into the ground with mountains as walls keeping the noise in. But Blacksburg is in the middle of nowere.

I think Rice stadium is the most beautiful I have ever seen and the Sun Bowl in El Paso is no slouch.
When Rice was built in 1950 it was a masterpiece. Brown & Root did the construction in just 9 months. 70,000 permanent seats expandable to 72,000 for UT game which was always sold out up until mid 60's. Use to open every season with LSU which was a great game at the same time.

I've been to Spartan Stadium (Michigan St.), Nebraska's Memorial Stadium & Cal's Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska's stadium is pitifully designed (4 free standing structures not interconnected w/ no attempt at symmetry) & uncomfortable (mostly wooden bleachers only 8 inches wide).

Michigan St. has a great view of multi-colored foilage in Oct. along north side of stadium. Other than that, nothing special.

Cal's place is rather small, 50K or so. A few hundred people sit on hillside overlooking stadium to view game w/o paying admission price. It's caled "Tightwad Hill".

only problem I have with Neyland is that all you hear throughout the stadium is "Rocky Top." they seriously play nothing else.

Shoot man, that's all they played at the SEC championship game a few years back.... I would really hate to see how much they play it in their own house...

I've been to Beaver Stadium. Place is freaking loud and the stadium shakes. I was at the Nebraska game the year Penn State won their first national championship ship and when Todd Blackledge hit the tight end for the winning touchdown at the end of the game I thought the stadium was coming down. Irving Fryar took one of the hardest hits I've ever seen on a crossing pattern in that game.

October games can be fun there as you can see the weather coming at you through the valley and a pleasant day can turn to sleet or snow quickly. If you go late in the season take a pack with extra clothes or you may freeze your arse off.

Mine are (in no particular order)
- Neyland Stadium (Tennessee)

The party atmosphere on The Strip outside of Neyland is okay, but Neyland Stadium itself sucks. It's not as big or as loud as I thought it would be, and the only reason they can fit 107K in the place is because the seating space was made for pre-teens. Normal-sized people cannot fit comfortably in their seats.

Oh and there's no on-campus parking either; it's a two-mile walk to the stadium. Traffic leaving the game is worse than the traffic leaving Tiger Stadium after a game.

If you want to go just to say you've been there, then by all means, make the trip. However, if you're looking for a great gameday experience, cross Neyland Stadium off of your list.

I went to Nebraska last year for the Colorado game. When Nebraska scored their first TD, every Nebraska fan let go of a red balloon so I couldn't even see the sky through about 50,000 balloons. I don't know if they just do that for Senior Day, but it was a pretty cool sight.

Been to see PSU and Syracuse in '75 at Happy Valley and saw it from the sidelines, saw OSU and Washington State at the Horseshoe when Bledsoe was a soph, went to school in Fayetteville for a year, and they were all great, but nothing compares to B.R. in the fall.

I agree with this. I hate Tennessee, but I hear the Volunteer Navy is pretty cool to see.

Neyland - amazing -

You people who went to that game in '06 didn't sit in the upper LSU visitors section. GARBAGE. Worst overall experience on a roadie i've ever had. I feel sorry for the UT fans who pay to sit there for a whole season. Not only were the seats, concourse, and view pathetic (there were about 300 seats that had an obstructed view due to the skyboxes), the atmosphere was poor. There were TONS of tickets, the most i've ever seen for a college football game, for sale outside the stadium for a Top Ten match-up. I've seen rivers before, so that angle didn't impress me or add to my football experience.

I didn't even see the last few posts before I posted this.

+1,000...definitely a hidden gem in college football. Go early in the fall, when the foilage is at its peak. Fantastic color, setting, pagentry and tradition.

Most stadiums and crowds get loud for a rivalry game. I have a friend who went too Boise State to see them play Hawaii and his ears were ringing afterwords.
