Why is that? I feel I know why most people say he should be in there... but it's not gonna be a popular statement.

Leach was an innovator, a walking sound byte, and a great coach/person who should be in the HOF. But tbh, he never won anything of note.

Les Miles was stubborn and unwilling to adapt to the times, and wasn't a great person. But he won a lot at LSU, including a Natty, in an extremely difficult conference. If Drew Brees goes to Miami instead of the Saints, Les Miles may have been in the conversation of being the GOAT.

Let's not act like the Vadal thing was not similar to what most/all winning P5 coaches ever did. They were all pulling whatever shenanigans they could dream up to pay players and their families to come to their schools. I guarantee you the actual GOAT, Nick Saban, would have had to vacate every single Bama win if a silent, invisible drone would have recorded all his recruiting deeds.

Didn't have many losses in those years to vacate

Looks like 14 loses in that span. Those also vacated would truly be a 108-59 record which is a 64.7%.

They should’ve let Mike Leach in as a contributor instead of lowering the standards, he certainly deserves to be in but his record doesn’t tell the story of his teams always punching above their weight because of his innovative offenses.

Great offensive mind; however, no conference championships. Hall of Fame ???

Mike Leach deserves it more than Les

Les Miles:
Championships
1 national (2007)
2 SEC (2007, 2011)
3 SEC Western Division (2005, 2007, 2011)

Mike Leach:
ZERO

Still pissed that Herbstreit opened his big mouth ahead of him leaving for Michigan

You mean a month before winning another national championship for LSU?

Come on, give me a break. Les Miles in 2007 was great. Les Miles in 2016 was not. He was perfect for LSU in 2007, though.

Miles on the field had a better winning percentage at LSU than Saban.

If you're evaluating based on impact on the championship race, then Mike Leach never won a meaningful game in his career.

Him dying in the job seems to have really elevated the retrospective analysis of his career for some people.

He won a national championship at LSU. He should be honored to an extent by LSU that’s about it. He’s not some CFB legend.

Really the same goes for O. He had his moment with LSU so we should honor him but the sport as a whole definitely doesn’t owe Les or O a damn thing.

Swampmonster couldn't hold Les's jock. 2019 was the biggest of flukes. Les actually ran this program well for over decade and is one Saban decision to come back to the SEC decision away from being one of the all time college coaches.

I liked Coach Miles.
Was it time for him to go? Absolutely

But win or lose, those games were never dull.

I want those victories back. Considering everything and the crap that we deal with today it makes sense. Hell, Reggie got his Heisman back.
