I have to write a report on if college athletes should be paid or not. I would like to hear anybody and everybody's point of view on the topic. Thank you

This should be on the Bama or Auburn board

They ARE paid. Anyone who denies the black-market cash flow for collegiate athletics is ridiculously naive.
Take a look at the arguments for moving the marijuana black market into the regulated sector. You'll find that many of the arguments are similar.

They should but it'll probaly never happen because u have to pay every sport men and women equally. LSU football players and women's golf will have to get the same thing. Title 9 is the biggest factor.

He can't write that in the paper though haha. I'm sure he means within the rules

College players not getting paid a salary is what truly keeps the emotion of playing collegiate sports so pure.
It's one of the reasons many people prefer collegiate sports over pro sports because many times, it's no longer about love for the game.

Feel free to quote me, but you better attribute it to me (mattz1122).

You can't be this naive

As others have stated, they are paid in an under the table way. Overtly, they are also compensated with a free education, housing, etc. I was awarded an academic scholarship to LSU and it still cost me $25K to get a diploma.

Let me rephrase then. Getting Paid public Salaries.

We should pay them per jarring penalized hit to the chin of receivers, amirite?

They are paid in tuition, books, housing, apparel, meals, personal tutors, etc.

Did a report similar to this in school. Came to the conclusion that on the exterior it seems like college athletes should be paid. The main issue is Title 9. Do you only pay players in sports that make a profit? If so what about women's sports? Also, do you pay a backup guard the same amount as the starting wr?
Bottom line: There is no good way to pay players. Also in the grand scheme of things, they have the opportunity to pick a college to put themselves in the best position to succeed in the careers like any college student.

100% this. Collegiate sports are a stepping stone to a professional career if you're good enough. It should stay that way.

What's the value of everything they get now? Full ride, coaching and development, opportunities, etc.

Im against it. But it doesnt seem fair to pay coaches 5 million a yr and not the players something. But whatever is decided on paying the players wont be enough after a yr or two. So opening up this can of worms will be tricky and endless.
But something is clearly wrong when u see Alabama building on to facilities and paying their coaches big money, but now theres not enough money left for UAB football. No shot taken at the Gumps. It is what it is.
How many programs can stay afloat if they now have to pay players? UAB cant stay afloat without paying, and its UAB not a small school in North Dakota.
