IMO the loss in the Nat champ goes to the OL, QB and Miles. Run blocking was horrible, Bama game planned for the JJ option, LSU's run game, and the inability our passing game.

If the OL keeps improving and Miles decides to actually let the passing game loose, we win convincingly. The Rbs are stronger and lighter than last year and the QB actually makes reads and throws to his check downs. IMO the speed of Blue and Ford will make a hell of a difference this year especially with Copeland opening huge arse lanes for them.

Yea, but theoretically... I sure will be happy using the qb option over and over.

Dreaux - thread is good and a great topic.

LSUTIGER - I agree 100% with you. Folks want to blame the Nat'l champ loss solely on Qb play for us, but a close look at details tells me it was scheming. Alabama adjusted, used TE more to attack weak LB play (anyone disagree that if anything was weak on our d last year, it was LB play?). They also threw true screen and check downs. I think they even rolled AJ out once.

Yes - our offense worked for 13 wins, but what IF TM7 hadn't returned that punt at Arky for 7, they score and we are down 21-0? Or Georgia had gotten a little more creative on offense after halftime in the SEC champ game. Point is thy Arky and Georgia were a lil better than other teams and had our same ole tendencies figured out. We even had to kick fg is red zone THIS year versus UNT and Wash.

So - whether it's Miles or Stud, we DO get out schemed regularly. I've seen some diff this year with the bubble screen set up, but hopefully we do more later against better competition.

Stud is not a dud. He is doing an impressive job. Krags too. I think this has the potential to be better then our 07 offense. Jmo. I think it took all of last year and summer/fall to completely gut crowtons offense.

Dreaux - though I don't completely agree with all of the above, I do agree that Stud isn't a dud (Miles might even hold him back) and the offense has the capability to be better than 07...

This is LSU's offense. Is it conservative and about as exciting as watching paint dry

I know its a matter of opinion, but I like watching a team (LSU) physically impose its will against another team. Shove it down thier throats and stop em if you can! I think Mett will be used to the extent that it benefits the game, CONSERVATIVE is the word of the day. CLM is bringing him along, and Mett is doing great. The last two games, figure in the drops and he is doing GREAT! We will see some long passes..

The op's intent is good, but the stereotypical displeasure the rants share is like fricking runny shite.

The offense is growing its wings, even pulling the trigger on a HB pass, but these folks still bitch.........unless Les copycats Petrino, they will continue to be unsatisfied. Pathetic.

This LSU team is built to beat up opponents while maintaining a passing threat (not much of a threat last year). Hell, one dimensional as they were last year they still won 13 games!!!

Now, the offense appears to have a yin to the yang......championship harmony.

What will never change is the LSU fan's firm desire to whine.

ETA: great job dreaux

Got that right.

[quote]unless Les copycats Petrino,

Les as HC, Petrino as OC, Saban as DC, Wing being banned from NFL and granted permanent eligibility at LSU, Mett winning back to back Heismans and back to back MNCs all would be shoved aside to complain about the music.

The bootleg is one of our most frequently run plays.

"I think this has the potential to be better then our 07 offense"

This offense is nowhere near the 07 offense. Maybe in yardage it ends that way because we are bigger and more physical than everyone else and the SEC is watered down but scheme wise 07 would run circles around this current offense.

"i'll be honest. for a "pro style" offense, it leaves alot to be desired. no actual NFL screens. no draws. no bootlegs. no waggles. minimal misdirection. its like we refuse to use scheme on offense."

You hit the nail on the head, I wouldn't even call this a pro-style offense so far. By the way, as dumb as Jefferson was and given his running ability why didn't we run more bootlegs with him? There were so many situations last year where I would say yeah a bootleg would work right here, but we haven't run a bootleg in like 4 years. (Later in the season Mett did finally get one)

You figure if your QB is dumb and can't make progressions, run a damn flood pass and put 3 options in front of his face with running being the 4th.

Miles likes efficiency, sure there may be no secret playbook, but if he can beat you with the run, he will beat you with the run I.E. a Washington D built for spread offenses, not cram it down your throat football. I promise we haven't shown everything, now does that mean les has this secret fail proof spread offense? No, but he will and HAS to open it up against a team with a better run D

For tl;dr: we've played NT and UW, we haven't needed a drew Brees offense.........

You can add to this No Use of receiving tight ends in short yardage or goal line situations...OR in any receiving situation..

That's one point I try to make when I'm discussing our offense with my buddies. It works, but our schemes are extremely predictable....and have been for some time.

We have the talent to run a much more diverse offense that would probably be near impossible to defend, yet we stick with the same handful of plays and run them over and over again.....even if they don't work.

the offense will open up more. They are running plays they never would have ran last year. Bubble screens are already there, so are the rollouts. The middle screens and check downs are already set up and I full expect them to be run.

The funny thing is, everyone was screaming like bithes for more down field passing and now some of you want more misdirection and spread. There is only so many plays you get to run. The schizophrenic offense some of you want but don't realize is croutons. A little of everything and a master of none.
