In the end population % doesn't matter so much when we are talking about shootings. The data that we should want to see is shootings per interaction with police...not sure if that data exists though.
that coupled with race of the office, because it wouldnt make sense that a black officer shot a black suspect because he was black.

sheer number wise yes. Proportionally, no. If one race makes up 61% of the population, you would expect them to have a higher number. Black people make up 14% of the population of the US and approximately 33% of police shooting victims.
Im just going to respond even though you got a response. It's so you idiots have this beat into your brain.
This is under the assumption that all black people and all white people had an interaction with an officer over the period of time the data you are looking at covers. You cant just use the entire population because the entire population arent criminals.
People like you lack critical thinking skills.

African American men, making up 6% of our population, commit slightly over 50% of our homicides
This is a fact that liberals and their media lap dogs have conditioned Americans to not speak of. Can you dispute these figures? No, they come from the FBI. Why can't we have a meaningful conversation about these numbers and this situation? Whatever the reason is, it's exactly why we aren't allowed to use Chicago as example of what real disregard for black life looks like.

And also commit 50% of violent crime. So proportionately, they will have more police encounters. See how that works.
Well I could also argue black people are disproportionally accused of crimes vs white people. It's kind of a chicken/egg situation: are they committing more crimes and thus being targeted more by police or are they being unfairly targeted by police and thus accused of more crimes? I don't know the answer to that. However a lot of black people shot by police aren't committing crimes: Philandro Castille had a license for his gun, alerted the police he had the gun, and was still shot. Elijah McClain's only "crime" was wearing a ski mask and dancing while walking down the street.

Don’t reach for a weapon when asked and don’t resist arrest. This is not hard.

Breonna Taylor was asleep. Castille didn't reach for a weapon.
Dylan Roof was taken to a Burger King drivethru before going to jail.
