Coach O on offensive plays in practice

Did anyone hear that he said we went from running 80 plays in practice to 20 plays this week?
i assume he is talking about different plays and not reps. This would have to help execution big time. I also liked how he discussed using passing game to open up running game. I am very excited to see the offense Saturday

He has only had a week. I wouldn't expect more than a few tweaks.

It's widely known that Cam and Les practiced every play under the sun at practice but come game time they would stick to only a handful of plays. Hence why LSU's offense looked the way it did.

I think the only real concern... maybe concern isn't the right word, more like something to watch out for... is new plays coupled with his want to limit on-field practice and more film study. There's obvious potential issues there, especially with zone blocking schemes and if Pocic continues to move around (It's a pretty good assumption he's calling the OL assignments).
However, it may also be a pretty good assumption that these plays are not new to practice, just games.

He said they ran about 30 plays in practice Wednesday instead of the typical 80...and yes, he's talking about reps, not different plays. Focus is more on staying fresh vs. grueling practices a few days before the game

It's crazy any team would practice 80 different plays...game plans are supposed to limit the plays and the team works on those plays all week.

How can you run 5 plays a total of 80 freaking times yet execution is still a big issue.

That seems low for reps. I still like how he wants to challenge defenses early with 4 verticals forcing the safeties to stay back

I had the opportunity to go to one spring practice a year for three years in a row from 2010-12 due to the HS coaches clinic. Every practice they ran a 5 minute period devoted to nothing but the wildcat formation. By my 3rd year, me and another coaching buddy made fun of the period because they spent so much time on the wildcat but hardly ever ran it over those three years.

That just makes no sense. Could be why we have execution issues. I'm all for simplifying then expanding the offense

A running back taking a direct snap is not "wildcat". Les would stick Ware and LF at qb and run power run plays. Wildcat has jet sweep action and the option to run the ball wide or run counter plays creating indecision in the defense.
