They were talking about this on one of the sports shows today. They were saying it has to do more with recruiting. Can’t recruit a player for 2020, if your contract ends in 2019. It’ is used against you by other schools.
If ACE RECRUITER Eddy O can’t counter negative crootin for having 3 years left on a 5 year contract , then maybe , just maybe, he’s not an “ace recruiter”.

Guess you haven’t followed CFB for long. If you want to attract recruits you have to show stability. Few want to sign with a coach that has a short term contract. This is absolutely nothing new.
You’d be a lot more convincing if you weren’t completely and totally talking out of your arse.
Miles somehow managed to land the #7 class in February 2016.
Dumbass.

It’s what most schools do. ADs usually show support for their coaches even when they struggle. You don’t think rival coaches are pounding on Auburn’s commits every day right now?
Funny considering malzahn just got an extension.
I thought that showed stability in the program.

It’s not like he’s going anywhere. Literally no other school would want him as head coach

Look at all that text.
So meaningless.
So meaningless.

I’m pro coach O cause he has the job and I didn’t want jimbo at all and I want him to be the most successful coach ever at LSU, but there is absolutely no reason to give him any type of extension he’s not going anywhere unless he gets ran off. Extensions and pay raises are there to make sure a coach doesn’t go anywhere.

Yeah i want to see an actual report or article showing that this is now the “norm”.
It seems like it’s only the norm if you care more about O than LSU.
Sadly that’s at least 1/5 of this board.

I don't think an extension should be granted yet. If there was some massive turn around, then yes but it is status quo right now.
We beat 2 ranked teams this season as the current standings are and we were beat by 3 ranked teams.
We beat 2 ranked teams last season. Granted our schedule was much more difficult this season. But we shouldn't have lost to A&M and UF.
Now some of this is OL and DL play that has been bad and much of it is due to injuries. But there hasn't been some big turn around to justify an extension with 3yrs to go on current.
And I like CEO and have supported him this season, but I don't think he deserves this yet. He will begin to lose my support if he doesn't change OC's and improve the OL and DL.
It's not like he is Tom Herman when he was at Houston and everybody was beating his door down. Nobody will be clamouring for CEO, he isn't going anywhere. Use your negotiating leverage to hold out on the extension.

It’s just pretty funny when you consider how many detractors miles had. Guy goes 24-4 in 2 seasons and gets a sugar bowl win and doesn’t get extended after year 2.
I guess recruiting went in the tank after ‘06 :(

Having O as the Head Coach of LSU Football provides more negative recruiting material for other SEC coaches than having Orgeron recruiting without a contract extension ever will! This foolishness of giving him a contract extension is truly just Joe "I am the search" Alleva enhancing his own job security for the next few years! Nobody, and I repeat NOBODY, is going to try to steal Orgeron away from LSU! We could actually reduce Orgerons salary to that of an average SEC Defensive Line Coaches with no contract exstension and no buyout and he still is not going to be hired away or leave LSU. No other school is going to make him their Head Coach PERIOD, and he knows that!
