Coach Mainieri's First Pitch luncheon today at L'Auberge

In honor of today being NFL draft day, he spent most of the time talking about LSU's incoming baseball "draft" of signees.
Six pitchers and six position players.
He thinks there's a good chance we keep at least 11 of them and maybe even all 12, although he expects 10 of the 12 to be drafted. He thinks we may have the #1 rated class when those evaluations are released.
All six pitchers throw 90+ mph.
Paul Byrd's son is one of the position players, an infielder and he will push current players for playing time next year.
A signee from N Carolina is telling the pro scouts he is coming to LSU (his grandfather is a professor at LSU) so don't draft him. Otherwise he would be a top 10 round draft pick.
The twins from Barbe will be interesting. Tidbit about one of the twins: he set a high school record this season for the most number of times getting HBP....30 times.
Besides losing our 4 seniors, PM expects to lose Nola (no surprise) and Broussard to the draft in June. Laird is 50/50 at this point. Only other possibility is Foster, based on potential.
Hunter Devall is 100%. Threw off the mound yesterday and had no pain.
Parker Bugg threw 120' long tosses yesterday with no pain. He will throw off the mound today and if he has no pain, he'll pitch this weekend.
Christian Ibarra will miss practice this afternoon because he has two final exams tomorrow.

It would be a huge mistake for Laird to leave.

Who the heck downvoted this post? Great insight into where the program is headed. Thanks.

He's my close friends nephew and I'm apparently going to games with the Grandpaw. Pretty shocked he turned into such a prospect.

Two finals and then a big SEC game? Good luck to him tomorrow.

PM said he and Dunn went to see Marshall (???, I think. I didn't take notes, just relying on my memory) pitch earlier this week. He's the kid most likely to sign with the pros at this point.
BOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Final exams, that's no excuse for missing practice
Foster to the draft - based on what potential? Foster may be telling them draft me so I can play since LSU won't put me in lineup

Laird is only a sophomore, I didn't think he could leave until after junior year
Posted on 5/8/14 at 2:20 pm to DJO45
His 21st birthday is within 45 days of the draft making him eligible.

You eligible 3 years out of high school, or if you turn 21 within 45 days of the draft no matter how many years removed from HS. (For players at 4 year schools, other rules apply for players in other situations)
