They beat 2 teams that finished above .500 last season. They squeeked by a 7-6 Pitt team who was 3-5 in conference. And the other was SMU in the ACC title game where they won on a walk off fg after having a 17 point lead going into the 4th.
Overall they were 2-4 against teams that finished with a winning record. They finished 0-3 against the SEC losing to UGA, Texas, and South Carolina. Their other loss against a .500 team was a 12 point loss at home to Louisville. Louisville led 26-7 through 3 quarters. 7 points. At home.
From November on theh finished 4-3 with a win over the Citadel.
There is a lot of hype around their DLine. They finished with just 1 more sack than we did (with 1 extra game). They finished ranked 85th in run defense.
Now im not saying LSU's resume was any better last year (even though it was) - but Clemson is not this juggernaut they are being made out to be. They feasted on a shite schedule.
Again - they only beat 1 team above 500 in the regular season and they were a garbage arse team. Clemson folded anytime they played a team with a pulse.

Kiper also said Johnny Football would be #1 pick. I saw EA Sports computer simulation of game and LSU won 38-13.

Mel Kiper had Shedeur going in the 1st round of the 2925 NFL Draft! Did that happen? LMAO

We play teams with numerous 1st round picks every year, bama, Florida, A&M.
Should be a great game 31-27 LSU

I can’t downvote enough. This will be the best team they play all year.
Clemson may be overrated. Best team in a mediocre conference. Automatic playoff bid as ACC champ so they have to push them up in rankings. LSU 31-27

Phil Steele (not an oracle, but a fair analyst) national rankings of LSU vs. Clemson units:
QBs: LSU (2nd) vs. Clemson (1st)
RBs: LSU (12th) vs. Clemson (31st)
WRs: LSU (3rd) vs. Clemson (2nd)
OL: LSU (43rd) vs. Clemson (2nd)
DL: LSU (22nd) vs. Clemson (2nd)
LBs: LSU (11th) vs. Clemson (8th)
DBs: LSU (28th) vs. Clemson (3rd)
ST: LSU (35th) vs. Clemson (outside of top 75)
Mere projections, of course. But interesting perspective for anyone trying to predict what happens week one.

Weak in the trenches again equates to 3-4 losses this season.

Texas easily had the best secondary in CFB last year and Klubnik shredded them. He was pressured most of the game, but his mobility/quick release mostly negated it. Whatever issues they had against Georgia were ironed out by the playoffs and they’ll only be better this year. And you’re going to need at least 2 elite DB’s, Moore/Williams are both future 1st rounders

I've been saying for months that this is a terrible match-up for LSU. I don't think it's close.
