Looking back at each of our championship teams, there is 1 class that stands out in each of them that really builds the core. It is usually highly recruited and usually JRs when we win. This is a look at each of them.

2003 was build on class of 2001
National Rank: #2
Major Contributors: Marquise Hill, Ben Wilkerson, Michael Clayton, Andrew Whitworth, Joseph Addia, Rudy Niswanger, Marcus Spears, Ronnie Prude

This class is maybe the weakest part as to my argument because the 2000 class was huge too.

2007 Championship was Built on that 2004 Class
National Rank: #4
Major Contributors: Craig Steltz, Glen Dorsey, Early Doucet, Herman Johnson, Jacob Hester, Chavis Jackson, Tyson Jackson, Brett Helms, Charles Alexander, Luke Sanders

(Note: the 2004 class was proceeded by the #3 class which helps build those 2005-2006 teams)

2019 Championship was built on the 2017 Class
National Rank: #7
Contributors: Stevens, Chaisson, Deculus, Shelvin, Phillips, Delpit, Vincent, Charles, Queen, Farrell, CEH, Carter, McMath, Ingram and Jefferson.

Maybe the strongest argument that you have to base your team on a strong JR class and supplement with a few Sr who stay and a few Underclassmen.

BONUS 2011 Runner-up was built on the 2009 class
National Rank: #1 (247 composite)
Contributors: Randle, Ford, Monty, Mingo, Brockers, Downs, Minter, Faulk, Claiborne, Barrow, Logan

So basically all of our top teams were built on top 10 recruiting classes. We will have another one this year in 2020

And the more we get the bigger our window becomes.

3-4 in a row gives us a solid window.

I guess My point was: have patience and let’s see how O closes this class.

Yeah your junior class is most important and 2018 was a disaster... hence the season sucked

This class may end up being the third top 5 recruiting class in a row. That is how you build a steady contender and championship program. O has turned LSU recruiting into a national brand where historically LSU’s recruiting ranking was tied to how much talent was in the state that particular year.

If O can build the O line then look out. Hopefully some of these guys develop and o can land Leigh this year. The future can be bright and should be bright

Have to get Leigh. I’m not big on saying a recruit is a “must get” or “make or break” but he is the closest thing you have because of talent and need. He is a three year starter on your o line most likely at LT from the jump.

He also needs to get some more o lineman but the issue is not the number of options. It’s development. They have plenty of scholarship o linemen but some of them just aren’t ready to play yet for whatever reason.

It might be too early to tell, but the 2019 class isn't looking much better at the moment.

Justin Thomas played a lot, too. Not a championship contributor, but an interesting addition to how good that class was, Tyler Taylor was a starter as a freshman, ahead of Phillips, before leaving the program.

Stingley, Emery, Palmer, Hampton, Ika (if he returns), Davis-Price, Ward, Flott, Evans, Fonua, York are already contributors. More will emerge next year just as several 2017’s emerged in 2019.

Look for: Bradford, Kardell, Perry and Turner on the offensive line. It usually takes years for them to develop in college. MaGee was a solid 2019 starter and did nothing for the previous three or four years.

If two of those linemen pan out that gives us 12 contributors. That’s not 16, like 2017, but it’s not 9 like 2018. And two of the 2018 are gone for their junior year.

That 18 class though was top heavy then nothing. It really hurt us this season.

Yes and it wasn’t deep at all so it was ranked 15th but it did include a Joe Burrow transfer.

2019 class was 5th
2020 class was 4th
2021 class should be either 4th or 5th and a perfect storm they could move to 3rd. I doubt they catch Bama or Ohio State.

That is your Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman for 2021 coming from top 5 classes.

so basically

Thanks for laying this out so I can say this.

THIS IS WHY YOU NEVER LISTEN TO STUDIES

First thought reading that is "we almost always have a top 10 class". Your pattern breaks down immediately when you notice those recruit ranks are not unique and we didn't win other years w the same recruit rank.

Your assumption is faulty and this thread should be anchored. Regardless, I do love the optimism. Im no negatiger but its important to think in the correct manner to get other things right in life.

2018 sucked because we dropped an insane amount of passes, didn't get guys open at all, had an average run game, average blocking, and average play calling. Defense was fine. None of this was because of bad juniors. It was coaching. All fingers need to point at coaching, not recruiting.
