The bigger issue is that teams that play 10% of the field should not be given second chances. Without a playoff you have to assume LSU>Bama because they beat them head to head. OSU accomplished more and in any other year would have been in that game.

Just for the record, It's not about "the best versus the best". It's about meeting the BCS criteria. Last year Bama was "the best" but had Ohio State not been on freakish one-year bowl probation we would have been treated to an Ohio State versus Notre Dame matchup and Bama would have been in The Sugar Bowl. That would have been a far "better game" from a competitive standpoint as well.

look, i'm as tired of the LSU/bama bitching as the next guy, but shut up.

what would they have to say 'if' about? nothing. they were a few minutes shy of being a 3 loss team last year, but they did what they needed to do to win and the ball bounced their way when they needed it to. whether they have deserved the fate they've had over the past three years is debate that is had on the rant all-too-often, but if you want to compare us to them and say that they don't ever say 'if,' as if they've had any reason to, then you're an idiot.

'if' doesn't matter at bama.

This.

The point of this thread is not to bitch about the same old issues but to point out how similar the teams are despite this huge perceived gap.

I get what you're saying, but you can't deny that the two best teams played each other that year.

they did. in november.

As sports fans that's what we want, the best vs the best.
And if conferences were so important ND wouldn't matter at all.

coll fb fans (or at the very least, me) want to see a sport where the regular season matters. that's what coll fb has over every other sport. and it that ended in '11 and will end for real once playoffs start and especially when they inevitably expand.

i think a playoff however will benefit LSU as they can drop a couple of games annually and regularly make a playoff. that's just not what coll fb is now and wasn't what it was in '11.

going back though, what was the difference btwn '11 and '06? why did bama get the nod and not michigan in '06 when everyone thought the "best" teams in 06 were mich and OSU?

the bcs got it right in 06, giving UF a chance b/c they won their conf and had a better resume'.

the bcs got it wrong in 03 sending a team that didn't win their conf to the NC instead of USC who did. same with nebraska vs miami.

and honestly, they got it wrong in '11. proving really nothing without a 3rd game. LSU plays bama in two games outside of death valley and wins one. how did that ending not feel hollow/unsatisfying to anyone without a bama slant?

Agreed. We were as close to an undefeated season last year as Bama was to a 3 loss season. Change 6 plays. 2011 was a historical anomaly. So we've been RIGHT THERE. But if you listen to the cfb Chattering Class we don't even rate a mention. It just seems very strange and odd that nobody seems aware of this except for us.

Regardless-NOW WE OWE BAMA.
There is nothing about LSU or Les Miles that suggests we are going to roll over.
It's time to achieve OUR dream and give them a Nightmare.

That's why I wish the format were conference champions only in the playoffs. That would ensure the regular season still matters. It'll never happen though because of Notre Dame.

Indicate one thing that I've said that implies I think ND was the second best team in the country last year.

Bama belonged in 2011, I don't really give a shite about anything else. Their one loss was by 3 points to the only undefeated team in the country. OKST lost to Iowa State. Yea, they won their conference, I get it folks. I wasn't happy about it either, and I'm still not. Doesn't change the fact that Bama belonged there, and proved it.

Are you arguing that an undefeated Oklahoma State would not have made it to the championship game over Alabama?

Because if you are, then you are wrong. And if you aren't, then you agree with us that LSU was a few inches on an OSU field-goal from having a better 2011 season than Alabama.

Which is the whole point of this thread in which you are arguing against everyone.

This. OSU is still the same team had that field goal counted and they won that game. Bama was better than them, just like numerous teams were better than Notre Dame. 80% of sports fans wanted to see the 1-loss OSU team play LSU, so no, I disagree that everyone wants to see "the best" because it can't be defined.

BTW, if you watch the youtube video, it looks good, just above the upright.

Everyone is arguing against me!!!!!!!

If OKST hadn't lost to lowly Iowa State and had been undefeated then yes, they would have played LSU.

Ohh that makes sense, why count the most important game of the year

Anywhere you see LSU's 2011 record listed, it will say 13-1 (8-0). Only regular season SEC games are counted in each school's SEC record, not the SECCG, not bowl games.

MSU - W
UK - W
Tenn - W
UF - W
AU - W
Bama - W
OM - W
Ark - W

(8-0)

SECCG vs UGA - W (only counts toward total record)
BCS vs Bama - L (only counts toward total record)

So even though Bama and LSU have a 2-2 head-to-head record in the past three seasons, LSU has a 2-1 advantage in "SEC play"

such ignorance. Bama is on top currently, however, dismissing the fact that lsu did beat bama in bama for what appeared to be the right to play for the n.c. in 2011 is prett big. Bama did nothing to earn their way into that game to get the hardware.

do they have it, yes. it's certainly nothing a lsu fan should feel inferior about.

After the so called game of the centry, lsu/miles had just beat bama 2 out of last three, two straight, and was on their way to their second championship in four years. A second chance changed the perception of the two programs.

LSU is Oklahoma State not sucking dick and one awful late game defensive possession away from having two national titles and Alabama having 0 since 2010.

Sucks bro.

The irony of that image is that many of the same people who argue in favor of a playoff also argued that BAMA deserved to go because they "were clearly the best team." That graph is what the season would look like if it was rightfully considered the playoff that it is.

Once you get past the numbers, what argument could be made in favor of BAMA going other than American Idol level popularity bullshite?
