I am honored to have Coach Chavis here at LSU. Coach Miles made an excellent decision bringing him aboard, IMHO.

This man has produced some very good SEC defenses in his career, and to hear this statement from him is very encouraging.

I am now learning that what he lacks in coaching, he makes up for in character.
The really frustrating thing about CLM is that he is a great person, a super role model, and an all around nice guy. He just can't seem to get the coaching thing right, at least not for the last 2 or so years. I am so willing and hoping he can pull it all together this year and be the CLM a lot of us learned to love from 04-07. But based on the last 2 seasons, I have my doubts.

Please CLM/LSU - erase those doubts with big wins and dominant LSU play. Let this season begin and all questions be settled once and for all.

Chavis on 3rd and long? "play soft guys, give up the first down, but nothing else"!

i'm not that worried about the D

we have speed rushing DEs and 1 amazing CB and 1 likely great CB

when you're loaded at the 2 most important (and rare) positions on the field, typically you'll do well at worst

that is true, but I wish these guys like Peline before him would dial up the blitz more often to make the QB throw a pic to one of those gifted CB's. that's all I'm sayin!

that's what I'm talkin about, him and Chavis look like they don't believe in blitzing often or in special situations, if Peline would have blitzed one time especially on that last play against Arky in the OT loss, LSU wins and finishes 13-1 instead of 12-2.

Great, I hope they get themselves in the right positions and rip folks heads off.

I absolutly love when LSU has the nastiest defense in the SEC. I have the want to hear Chinese Bandits!

If you truly believe we didn't blitz one time during the arkansas game then you weren't watching very closely. Chavis has used a good bit of zone blitzes throughout his career and last year was no different. The problem was that we had no pass rush from the edge so when would we would blitz the lbs would get held up by the inneffective line.

if we're zone blitzing, our DE's pass rush abilities don't matter b/c they're in coverage

I'm talkin about the Peline coached defense against Arkansas in that OT loss at TS at the end of the year, and yes I was def watching the game, were you? Casey whatever his name was, the Arky QB could have had dinner for 2 in the pocket when he finally found a open RB to throw to to keep their scoring drive akive, if Peleine had just sent one LB in after him he is sitting on his arse, and ballgame is over!

I think this defense has the potential to be very good. Aggressiveness on third down will go a long way in determining how good they really are.

+1

gonna come down to coaching and we'll see if 3rd and Chavis is a myth...
i hope he can get the down and distance in our favor..

rude awakening...chavis used to say that all the time at tenn. this d will be the youngest in 10 yrs...

pp can play big recievers but not so well against smaller quicker ones....just ask the 2 recivers at penn st who burned him in his last game...how soon do we forget...

6-6 at best

Coach Miles is good person, he handled the Tigers after Katrina better than Saban could have dealt with it. Saban is all about football and himself. We as Tiger fans owe Coach Miles a debt of graditude for showing compassion and yet keeping the team focused on its goals. Football is a Tiger Nation passion, but we cannot lose sight of the fact he is a good person. I want him to succeed as a coach, last year's MIM was a back breaker. I hope he can recover this year ... regardless we should never forget what he did during our worst crisis.
