In 14 years as DC at UT, his defenses finished top four in the SEC 10 times in 14 years. Chavis' defenses, known for an attacking style, finished among the top three SEC defenses in nine of his 14 seasons. (Edited this to correct earlier post)

Chavis

Now go back and look at UT's recruiting vs the other top teams in the SEC over that time. Find me a year when UT out-recruited UF, LSU, UGA, AU,or UA in the last 10 years.

Add in the fact that his current assistants are better than what he had at UT, and the LSU offense is loaded with veteran talent and All SEC type players across the board.

Note that Chavis will have more 5 and 4 star players at his disposal than at any time in the last 10 years.

You're primed to have the best season you've ever had as a DC in the SEC if you're Chavis.

Did you happen to see how pretty much every sec team laughed at LSU's D last season?

Did you notice how Arkansas laughed at Pelini's defenses.

I'm pretty sure that is not true.

Posted this in a similar thread in the SEC Rant:

quote:

Chavis not great? Take another look at last year's defensive stats. UT's defense tied for first with the Tide in total defense. The difference in those achievements was that the Tide offense finished first in time of possession, the Vol's offense finished DEAD LAST. There wasn't another team in the country, in any other conference, that accomplished that, or even close. Go check the NCAA stats yourself: NCAA stats Last year's UT Vol defense might have been Chavis's best coaching job. It was amazing achievement particularly since UT lacked depth at DL and was on the field as much as it was. With more depth and talent to work with at LSU, and a loaded offense to take the pressure off the defense, Chavis may well top last year's stellar coaching achievement. I'm betting he will!

I did. From 2000 to 2007, Tennessee never finished first in the conference in total defense. Therefore, it would be hard for him to finish first in total defense 9 times since 1995.

I don't think you read what you wrote.

Chavis's D's were top four in the SEC 10 times in 14 years.

Tennessee hasn't had premiere talent for a long time.

Whoever heard of Florida's DC before he came to Florida?

Chavis will do just fine with our premiere talent level on defense.

Why did you post that Tennessee finished first in total defense 9 out of 14 years?

The difference will be light and day. Personally haven't given up on the UF game like so many have.

I just don't think Chavis is the best we could've hired. I would've like to have gotten someone younger with more upside....and up and comer eager and hungry

If you're asking for a specific name, I will have to cop out on that and I realize that's a bit disingenuous on my part. So be it.

But hiring a young up and comer with less experience, therefore not as safe a hire as Chavis would have been a risk Les could not afford to take. He needed a name. And he got one.

Ok from what I see I misread "top four in the SEC 10 times in 14 years." to what I posted before. I'll change it, but I'm still very happy about it, as I doubt LSU's D finished top four as many times over that period.

My apologies for the misquote.

Easy? No. But blowout like last year? Definitely not.

FWIW, our best chance at beating them will be in TS. The faster ATL turf, not so much.

Dude, it was a misquote. I'm not getting into it with you again because you're a pretty strange individual with an agenda I can't fathom.

I apologized and that should be the end of it. What are you like five, that you have to resort to name-calling?
