It's going to be classified as a major infraction because it was ruled on by the Committee on Infractions.
A major infraction does not mean a major penalty however. LSU's only previous major infraction resulted in a one year probationary monitoring period with no sanctions whatsoever.
In other words, a slap on the wrist.

Someone within the program would leak it...guaranteed. Losing scholarships among other things is a pretty substantial penalty imposed. I don't see how the NCAA can do anything serious. They'd essentially be telling every university to find more ways to cheat and cover things up.

The NCAA will just have a presser saying LSU did the right thing and will only require we lose 2 scholarships.
Kid never playing a down and the coach being fired shows extreme integrity. There's no way we get anything more than our self inflicted punishment. If that. This is assuming we know everything.

I love the spin on the ESPN article. They fail to mention that these were all self imposed sanction until the last sentence.

And that is that. Nothing to see here, just like I said.
The better question is how they file the Lyles situation. Did LSU have a "major" violation then? Because if anything is labeled then, even cooperating, they may lay harsh sanctions down. If you have several major infractions over years, the NCAA will get pissed and eventual lay the smackdown on you even if you're cooperating.
Since a recruit can use anyone they want to accompany them to camps...I don't see any major infractions. Unless Lyles paid their way. Which he has given no indication doing.

As long as we get cleared of the Lyles thing then this isn't that bad.

This is the second sentence.
quote:
The school escaped harsher penalties as a result of cooperation from its compliance office, which self-reported the recruiting violations and cooperated with investigators, the NCAA said.

impermissible lodging , transportation, excessive phone calls to players
unethical conduct on DJ enlisting student workers to pursue known violations, Dj tried to cover up with a separate phone* LSU had no idea of second phone.

Hopefully this doesn't affect our recruiting too much. That's all I'm worried about. I don't want us to sink.

all of these violations are major violations, no secondary violations.
