Patrick Peterson, just like he was this year.

Eric Berry who was rated the #1 safety out of HS by some services the same year as CJ had no problem being coached up in Chavis' D at UT as a freshman starter earning unanimous freshman AA and unanimous AA as sophomore and junior, the last year under Kiffin. Sometimes it's not coaching shortcomings, it's the player. Berry's football awareness and instincts on the field are superior to CJ's, the eyes and stats don't lie. I think CJ should have stayed, but certainly can't blame the man for wanting to get on with life and make some good coin.
I still view the OL as the biggest challenge to success in 2010, the D will persevere.

That one example really makes me change my entire outlook on Miles and Chavis.
Jones is terrible and won't amount to anything.
Actually, I'll go with the averages, being that barely any other players have been "coached up" either.
Miles' former/current players cabinet isn't exactly full of over acheivers.

Yeah, boy, that is what I wrote.
People have been going on about CJ for 3 years and he just became a starter in 2009 with similar speed and at least 20 lbs on Berry? The lack of development is either with him, the coaches or both, but Berry had no issues developing under a Chavis led defense. I think CJ will be a good NFL player, I just don't see him having the innate football skills Berry possesses. Spin it how you want it.

By the end of the season Chad Jones was playing very good football. He was our best defensive player in the bowl game for sure. Losing him is definitely a big blow regardless if Loston is great. If Loston's that good he would have been playing with Chad Jones next year instead of having to replace him and that would have been scary.
I'm pretty sure he defined 'game changer' in a few games

not a game changer like he could have been.

I agree with wooden nickel, Chad Jones obviously was a valuable player/athlete but it seemed like he relied mostly on speed and athleticism and never really had or developed football insticts or a feel for the position. With Loston coming in, I don't think it will be too damaging to our defense.
+1

Losing CJ is a huge blow. He was the leader on defense,a play maker, and brought toughness. He will be a #1 draft choice. We have to develop some kids, including Losten to backfill.

True, its not that bad.
We'll be essentially replacing a senior with a redshirt freshman. Experience is way overrated, especially in the SEC.
Only on the Rant can such intelligent people/ideas be found.
