Your argument isn't with CBS. It's with LSU and the SEC for agreeing to the deal.
If the SEC and their schools have traditions that are more important than being on national television, then they shouldn't agree to the TV contracts.
Bingo.

It's all about the $$$$$$. The Superdome, one of the last NFL holdouts that kept their original name, just caved to Mercedes Benz for the dough last week.

For the one-millionth German time... CBS gets better ratings with non-NCAA Football programming on Saturday nights. They'll win the ratings for the South but not the rest of the country. ABC is a part of ESPN, hence their using ABC to air the extra game.
Yet LSU-WVU won every timeslot on the Saturday night we played. That excuse is BS.
What disturbs me is we hear nothing from LSU about the desirability of Saturday night games. Realistically there may be little they can do to change things, but they ought to at least be making their displeasure known instead of bending over and taking it with a smile on their faces.

This sucks! Why can't CBS televise a night game. They have in the past. Is there anyone we can complain to @ CBS?

Is there data to support this, because I really have a hard time believing it.
ABC's prime time coverage of college football dates back before the ESPN merger completion (2006). Even still, if CBS gets better ratings with non-NCAA football programming on Saturday nights the same would be true for ABC, and thus play a big factor in their programming. I also don't believe that SEC football would only win ratings in the south during prime time. How in the world would this be true if coverage of other (IMO inferior) conferences give ABC enough ratings to justify prime time airing? Calling it ESPN's extra game does not answer this question. ABC is not going to do anything that isn't financially justifiable or profitable. I think the truth is that the two networks don't want to go head to head out of fear of knocking themselves out. Somebody would have to lose the ratings battle and neither want to risk it. I want to see the data behind this. And if this has been posted one-million times I call bull one million times.
Nevertheless, from what I am reading, CBS weekly prime time coverage of college football may be on the horizon when the super-conferences are born. If this is true, I would welcome the SEC-16.

They could have picked Vols/Gumps. Considering it might be the last time they meet in the regular season for awhile.

oh you silly fools, you actually believe that the SEC will not give Bama what it wants?

Isn't this supposed to be homecoming? I'll watch from home if they do this ridiculous non-sense.

With hottest team in college football, the administration should be trying to leverage that into more favorable treatment. Instead, crickets.

the market speaks...just deal with it

it works both ways. We have a commodity they want. We should be trying to get the best "price," which is not always monetary. I don't see any indication we're doing that.

#1 LSU is a member of the SEC
#2 The SEC negotiated a contract with CBS.
What can the LSU administration do to leverage more favorable treatment.
As I wrote elsewhere, if you want more night games bring back Curley Hallman.

Nothing at this point. I hope they're working toward it for the next contract, whenever that is. Maybe they're working behind the scenes. They're not saying anything about it in public, that's for sure.

Look, I understand and share your frustration about the lack of night games. But that's the price we are paying for our success. CBS is paying the SEC a hell of a lot of money and for that they get to call the shots. Not the SEC or the LSU Athletic Department.

What leverage do we have to make sure our home games aren't picked up as day games? Boycott CBS and their advertisers. If LSU fans unite on this, maybe we get passed over for day games and end up on ESPN or ABC at night.

Day games are a better bang for their buck, hence why they only have one primetime game all year.
Actually prime time on a national broadcast network is typically where the advertising dollars are made for networks. CBS showed the Florida/Alabama game in prime time and crushed the competition that night on all networks, easily dominating the ratings and the other game between Nebraska and Wisconsin on ABC.

I would think this would have to be negotiated in the tv contracts. Since they will likely be re-negotiated with conference expansion, there may be that opportunity for LSU to get something in the contract. Before you say that's not going to happen, the Big10 actually has it in their tv contract that no games in November will be played at night and I'd bet both Ohio State and Michigan have some say in having their traditional day games (not just against each other) preserved. Michigan played their first night game ever at home this season. If you have clout, you can get some of what you want. LSU may not have the same history of winning national titles as OSU and Michigan but 2 in the last 8 years ain't bad. Just sayin'! Worth a shot.

We want LSU to be a premier team, but also want our home games games at night. The only way that happens is if the networks find there is a steep price for monkeying with our night game tradition. Make it known we won't buy the products of people that advertise on a network that moves our game to daytime and maybe something good happens.
There are plenty boring communities with good football teams that prefer to hold there games during the day (e.g. Alabama). Let the networks show that. Disrupt our tradition and you'll pay a price.
