IDK. We had a player transfer to us from Michigan after 07 (when they hired DickRod). Can't beat em, join em, I say.

You are getting a good player. No reports of on or off field trouble.
LSU is incredibly stacked with young talent in the defensive backfield. Apparently he is not getting the playing time he feels he needs to get a real shot at the next level. Wants to go somewhere where he thinks the odds are better. He feels Bama fits that mold.
Apparently Saban still likes him.
He did request and receive a release to talk to Auburn first but, "things just didn't work out". Good luck to him.

Does PJ have any connection to Bama?
He is from Mobile Alabama........so I guess he is going home.

What if he would have "sat out" at LSU? IE, did not participate in any football stuff. Would he still have 2 years to play after this year or would they have to count this year as a scholarship year?
He has 3 years of eligibility left and is wasting one sitting on the bench at Bama. He's not getting an extra year or anything, next year will be his redshirt sophmore year where ever he is enrolled.

Bama does not have our talent so he can play sooner and maybe better his life.
The talent gap between LSU and Bama isn't as much as some people think it is.

I still don't see how they'll fit him in if he's not paying his own way, maybe that's been reported.

Soooo, I guess that about does it for the Mobile guys that wore LSU uniforms.
Glad to see Mobile is Alabama country again..
Now, if ya'll would just find another beach to go to we can have Gulf Shores back like we like it again without purple shite on the f'in beach. If you stay on I-10 east, it comes to Perdido/Pensacola just a few more miles down the road. Great place, you'll love it there. Have fun recruiting in Texas. Or taking some loser from Dothan that we dont want, ole what's his name?
By the way, you know you're in the land of the corndog when your school sells more baseball season tix than football. Good luck in, uh, Nebraska somewhere?

Anybody know anything about this kid? When I saw that he wanted to transfer to Bama, I didn't really think he'd get the opportunity. Now that he's on our team, I'm wondering what we've got. Frankly, I'm not sure if I want him since he didn't think he could crack the depth chart at LSU. We will lose some DB's over the next couple of years, but there's a lot of young talent waiting in line. If he's just not very good, he's likely to be 2nd string at Bama too.
He was the #1 player in Alabama when he came out of out of HS 2 years ago

not sure i see Phelon beating out Robbie Green or that #1 ranked cornerback prospect they got a few months back or some other talented ones they got waiting in the wings....we'll see....this could come back to bite us in the arse in a few years......hope not

Not yet Bayside. Sidell Corley is still in BR. Saban tried hard to get Corley and Jones to switch their commitments late when he first took the Bama job. But they signed with the Tigers anyway.
Like most have said here, Phelon should be a good player for you guys. Just didn't work out in BR with the players in our backfield. Corley should start seeing some playing time this year for us. Unlike our secondary, we've got huge turnover on our D Line. Also, I agree with the guy who said Phelon probably isn't 6 feet. He's a pretty stout 5'10" 1/2 though.

This is my question as well. Did he get a scholly? If so, how?

Miles is not a hater and wants the best for the guys he recruits. If this is the better path for him then let him be.
I completely agree with you. I wish that our future recruits would look at things like this instead of how big the stadium is or if they get to play on tv. This is the type of thing that those other things can't buy, character, and it is obvious that miles has it. I for one wish jones nothing but the best, i hope he even gets to play in the nfl, i just hope that he doesn't do good against us. But i respect him and am glad that he didn't take any shots at us when he left, he left with some dignity and i am glad we have a coach that will let guys leave and even go to a rival if that's what's best for them.

how does it feel to take LSU's backups, a guy who was 5th or 6th on the depth chart?

Personally, I hope he does well. I think it looks better for Miles from a recruit's eyes to allow the transfer than to keep him in a situation that makes him unhappy.
Does he count toward a scholarship this year even if he's not eligible? My only concern for him is: HTF can Saban do that?

He could be 'gray shirted' and sit out a year. Then when he's eligible they'll award him a scholarship.
He would have been better off going to Troy or UAB I think.
